Hi minijcar,
Your text "this paint drying exercise" made my day and summed up how I feel about what I thought was going to be a 1 hour job to install a new tacho on a Sunday afternoon :D , yet it has turned into a research project on a topic I know little about.

Thanks for your help, will hopefully try out the diode this week end and see what happens.

Accuspark got back to me and recommended I contact https://www.spiyda.com/ at this point I am trying to limit expenditure on this, but will keep as an option if needed.

Accuspark sound like they are duck-shoving your issue with this comment...but sure, Spiyda do sell an inline conditioner...and the RV1-RVC conversion for Smiths Tacho's...

PS SAAS say warranty will be void if used with aftermarket electronic ignition...
