Hi All

I changed my older single speed wiper motor (rectangular body) to the newer type wiper motor (Round body with self parking); installed with the kit including loom, brackets and two speed switch.

As i was putting the motor together, I noticed the old wiper motor gear was much larger and woulnd't fit in the newer motor... so ordered the newer 110 degrees gear as sold by everyone.

The problem now is the wipers sweep too far. So from parked position (on drivers side) it sweeps over and on to the scuttle and back to the parked position. I reinstalled the wiper arms so in the parked position the wiper blade sits on top of the windscreen seal but the overall sweep still sweeps the scuttle. I had a look at the wheel box and it's the mk1 type.

Is there some other adjustment for the sweep angle? or some other workaround?

Thanks in advance!!

You need a 105 degree wheel.

Thanks David.

You wouldn’t have an online link to one would you. Or do you have one for sale?

Edit: all the usual mini parts places in oz, uk, USA stock the 110 degrees.

Did you change the two wheel box's to the latter type as well?
I think (would need to check) they are a different size / diameter and thus ratio.

No. I haven’t changed them yet. I can see there are two types commonly available. Mk1 22 teeth and later 32 teeth. I have the mk1 and assume it’s 22 teeth. I’m pretty sure the 32 teeth box would mean the wipers sweep less like you’re saying. I just don’t know if it will fit. Are there any mods I need to make or straight swap. (Also those wheel box nuts are seized on and that means getting the grinder out. Or maybe a cold chisel??... PITA!!!)

Easiest way to get frozen wiper nuts off IMO is cut one corner with a grinder then use a shifter to undo.
The alloy wheelbox threads are fragile, I used a good nut with 2 hacksaw cuts in it to act as a poor man's dienut to clean them up.
Don't wire brush them!

Did you end up sorting this out?
I have a late 2 speed motor also that I would like to use in a mk1

Nah. Not yet. I don’t know whether I will customise the gear wheel I.e. cut off the peg for the and fit it into one of the holes closer to the centre of the wheel. Or just buy another 100 or 105 degree.

I might just try to butcher this one first and if it fails, I’ll buy a 105

I got mine going. The mk1 wheel fits in the mk2 motor (in my case). Strange but my mk1 wheel says 120 deg. What I didn't realise is that the mk2 motor mounting bolts don't align with mk1 firewall holes so I ended up going back to the slow mk1 single speed
motor after all
