Looking at modifying some standard front seats as per that done for the police cars.
This is to suit a low roof line (about 3 inches) not for a tall stature with cap on.

Was the only mod the removal of 1" from the rear supports?
Was it 1", or more or less?
Were there any modes to the front of the seats / brackets or was this left standard.

Thanks to viperrwk for the photo.
Seat on the right has the lowered rear support or legs.
Seat on the left has been shortened and then extended.

For pre-1971 seats that don't have the mechanism to anchor the rear of the seat to the floor the only modification was the removal of about 1.5" from the tube, bending the tube so the two ends meet and welding the two ends together. No change was made to the mounting bracket.

This is part of engineering drawing HYA7267 for the modification to create a Special Production Order 16 lowered seat. The measurement for the length to be removed is indistinct but I've calculated it to be approx. 1.5" by comparing two seats. Shown in the drawing is the approx position where the tube is to be reformed by bending.

Ignore the other diagrams and comments as they relate to the later ADR compliant seat frames.

Ha ha, no, I'm showing my reading skills. :) The BMC drawing says to gas weld (I assume that's what "CO2 weld" means)?. I'm not a welder so I wouldn't know which is best today. Did they have MIG back in the mid-sixties?

Also, the rework was done on the bare frame so no issue with adjoining trim being affected. Would all the trim have to be removed if making this mod on a complete seat?

The BMC Standard YMP215 for welding covers 59 pages so it's quite extensive as you'd imaging for a manufacturer primarily welding sheet metal together, adding a powerplant and putting it in the hands of the general public.
