They do remake them for the Innocent mini, but the price is huge! I'd love some original 850 rubber mats for mine, but for now the carpet will have to do

Good find Tim, that’s $530 by today’s rates, not too bad, but I suspect shipping would be expensive as they say they use Italian Post for international orders, rather than courier.

You're right ... pale black :)... and textured like the picture...

Cheers, Ian

I believe mine still has the original rubber front wheel arch covers. It’s the same texture as the pic on the previous page

Early front mats must've had an emblem embossed on the transmission tunnel, presumably the BMC Rosette, because change #7 in the drawing above dated November 1965 says: "Emblem Deleted".

I do remember seeing someone post a picture of one on here quite a few yrs ago. Was in deluxe from memory (may have been before your time even)

Here's a quick guide to the different types of mats from what I've seen in cars:

850
Rough/crinkle textured
- Early: dark rubber with light grey speckle (as per winabbey's example)
- Later: dark rubber (slightly different shade), no speckle (Wheels said in 1964 "...it is now heavier and smoother, very unlike its speckled predecessor, which we remember once describing as "unborn perentie lizard hide.")

Deluxe
Smooth coloured finish, available in blue, red, green and doeskin/yellow (and maybe black?)
- Early: with Morris emblem as winabbey identified
- Later: Morris emblem deleted

Clubman - similar to Mini K?
- Similar to the coloured Deluxe mats, but with more of a patterned texture. Clubman available in new colours

Have tracked down some sample photos from the forum below (original thread link below photos):

Early 850 (speckle):

In regards to remaking, someone came up to me in recent times when I had an 850 on display and said they were making good progress on reproducing an 850 mat. I think they were from All Car Carpets, but can't recall for certain.

Thanks,
Evan

Thanks for those photos Evan, very nice to see an original 850 interior.

If you want to save them, but don't want the photobucket watermark on them I have found if you right click on the photo and choose "open image in new tab" it opens without the watermark

Thanks Tim, that's always bugged me.

Thanks for the pics Evan - that takes me straight back to my first 850 30 years ago!

Good news, heard today from All Car Carpets and they have the moulds for the Mk1 mini and can do it in vinyl. But only colours are black, grey and brown. No heel insert either.

Only thing that worries me is that it won't suit the real early floor start minis. The picture of the carpet one looks too high in the centre for the early Mk1's like mine. They said that the finish is a crinkled orange peel type look and very hard wearing. They are sending me a sample of the black and grey. Pricing is very keen too under $300 for front and rear set. They can also do the boot. Will post up some pics when I get them.

That's a great update clip - very keen to hear what the samples are like.

A recently restored 850 I saw at the VMCi Mini Show looked to perhaps have a new mat. I wonder if it is an All Car Carpet one. Does anyone know the car? It's a Chartreuse 1961 model.

Could be, although not what I was imagining from their description. Lovely Mk1 too!

My 63 850 was Nurberg White with Caramel/Yellow upholstery and had the same grey rubber flooring as in Winabbey's pic above.

Got the samples today. Definitely getting close to matching the Mk1 'speckle' finish. Feels very tough, will probably last another 50 years. I wonder if someone will be driving my mini in another 50 years? 2070!!!

I'm thinking I will go with the grey...

Just hope the front section it doesn't have the high centre tunnel. I'll be asking them about that.
