Hello Australian Mini Lovers,

Nice to meet you.
I am sending a message from Japan.

My mini is an "Australian mini".
It has triangular windows and carries various Australian mini features.

But I can't know the year this mini was born.
Can I discuss my mini with you?

Best Regards
Mizuho

Well, I don't speak English, so I use Google Translate.

My mini No. is
Engine 9FSAY4766 .....
Chassis KA2S61145 .....

This made me realize that my mini was weird.
I want to ask you

Does the ALL Australian mini chassis have "YKA2S ...."?
Is it right to have a British chassis number, like my Australian mini?

I think his chassis is #KA2S61145 which he believes is an English chassis number. He thinks his car is Australian and wonders why it doesn't have a number featuring YKA2S

Thank you, everyone.
I'm glad to talk to you :D

Yes, Mr.pdpsing's guess is correct.

My mini chassis does not have numbers starting with YKA2S.

Attached is a photo of the chassis plate.
Please let the opinion of everyone.

Without more photos it could be anything from April 1968 to Dec 1970.

If I had to guess from the photos above I would say a 1969 Mini K.

A photo of the firewall will tell us if the car is a MK1 or MK2.

1 of the 2 areas I circled should have a chassis number.

The MG Car Company did not build Minis.

There's a very simple method to separate UK cars from Oz cars....

Look at the corners in the inside of the drip rail that runs around the edge of the roof. Are there a couple of drilled holes or a wedged slot? The holes/slots are to let the water out; Oz cars have drilled holes.

It may be different for very early CKD cars but by the time the S was in production the differences are valid.

Cheers, Ian

The chassis plate may be recycled from scrap MG car.
but may have been re-stamped to this mini keep the numbers.

Tally Plate definitely recycled from an MG...possibly an UK MG 1100? 10/1969 wiper motor...

I think the MG plate is off an MGB. It has been hammered and restamped.

I heard from the previous owner that this mini was a canvas top at first.
The canvas rotted and the ceiling was transplanted.

Is there a canvas top variation for the OZ Cooper S 1275?

We had Webasto sunroofs but they were not factory fitted.

I think the wiper motor is from Australia.
The interior also had the characteristics of the OZ Cooper S.
