I am going to have a crack at building an electric conversion for Minis. Got lots of ideas and electrical knowhow, and will be winging the rest if it |

Have you seen the Jaunt motors kit? Apparently it’s a bolt in subframe and no modifications are required to the shell. It all looks pretty good until you get to the price near the bottom… https://www.jauntmotors.com/mini |

Thanks Timmy, Yep that is the fellten kit by the looks. My plan is not so much to get an ev mini but more to see what I can do to make one. |

Is this EV setup only used on dry suspension Mini's? |

That kit looks to be based on a UK single bolt subframe which was only available with dry suspension. I wonder how the weight balance changes with the conversion and if it’d be suitable if it was made hydro |

There are numerous ways to attack the electrical side of things. low voltage dc, medium or high voltage dc ac etc and all have their own particular pros and cons. I can use any and all as I have on hand all sorts of motors and speed controllers. I have in the past built small electric vehicles, rideon trains, bikes, trikes etc using low voltage dc but for this i think i will opt for low / med ac. The trick is gearing, that is to say getting the motor to run at its optimally efficient rpm while running the driveline at a useable speed. My plan is to use a standard gearbox initially which will allow me to work out the best gearing for the motor. The rest is still very much in the pipeline. |

I assume you have read up on the G.O.S.H. carborg project? Electric motor on top of a mini gearbox. https://www.facebook.com/groups/195119945538260/ |

WOW! I meant to go check out their kit at the mini club meeting last month. I was expecting it to be expensive, but that's WAY more than I was thinking... |

I just want someone to put a Koenigsegg Terrier in a mini. Or even 4wd with 4 Koenigsegg Quarks. |

I had a good look at and a drive of a Jaunt conversion a few weeks ago, it's a lovely thing, obviously pricey, but the owner did get what he paid for |

I love the idea of a powerful EV mini, but that price for Jaunt's offering is staggering. Also wonder how much fun is lost in effectively having a single speed auto, without the joy of working through the gears on some twisty road? |
