I'm currently running Farkens, which are just totally shite (as we all know). I will need to replace them for rego anyway but geez they just disappeared so quickly. And yeah there is a little bit of the burnout thing happening. I am going Yokohamas of some sort. Also how come you guys don't go through tyres given that mine must be the most stock Starlet running and yet every takeoff there's a bit of wheelspin. Is it simply 13" rims with 6" tyres ya reckon?

What tyres you all running?

What model of tyre is Brad running as I would like (like everyone else) a tyre which good grip that lasts a reasonable time. I was looking at Yokohama A0008, A032R, A539's or if I can get them Pirelli P3000, anyone have experience with any of these?

The SIME's are just as crap as the falkens :) that's why the they last so long :)

Anything with a reasonable amount of grip will not last..I would go the A539's, should be too bad, and have good grip. Dean didn't break traction really with them on his car and you would run the same size on the 6" as the 7's

Brad yeah 12's the budget doesn't extend to wheels and tyres ($1200?). Mainly trying to get it over the pits so the less I change the better. Still good news cooling seems under control. So I will book the engineering test next week and hopefully rego straight after. I having a dyno tune on Tuesday (and getting the SARD RR FPR installed, should be interesting to see what difference this makes if any?). Alright the A539's it is.

the sard fpr will probably not kick in until you start upping the boost past the ecu boost cut of 12psi. The standard one actually keeps the mixture very rich when on boost. I fitted my sard fpr with the standard fpr in place too, on the dyno it seems to be working fine like that.

Brad can I simply remove the standard FPR and run the line directly from the fuel rail to the SARD FPR? Or wouldn't you recommend this?

yes you can run the sard fpr alone (this is what is ment to be done) but i have heard of many starlet guys running it with the stock one in place with good results. Just saves taking the stock one of and blanking the inlet up on the fuel rail.

Josh,
Those Yokies of yours are the old antique 165/70-13 track compound, much softer than yer usual A008....
I run 10" A008s, life is acceptable although lots less than Falkens. But the Yokies GRIP... 8)

Matt,

I am running Dunlop SP9000's in size 195/35r13

Awesome tyre - I would rate them the best on the market.

They are not readily available here in Australia but Stuckey's Tyre Service in Melbourne got them in for me from Japan (SP9000's are one of the last tyres to be actually made in Japan). Here is the Dunlop spiel:

The ultimate in ultra high performance tyres, the SP Sport 9000 is Dunlop's international flagship tyre. The SP Sport 9000 delivers cutting edge technology and performance for the enthusiast looking for the very best. The Dunlop SP Sport 9000 features the distinctive `sweep' directional tread design that sluices water way like a turbine wheel, while a ground breaking silica tread compound promotes amazing wet weather traction and reduces rolling resistance. It's available in a variety of sizes to fit local and imported exotic and performance cars.

As I said , I would rate them as good if not better than any other tyre currently on the market.

Best of luck.

Andrew
