Yeah the 4EFTE is supposed to have a non contact head, in other words even at full extension the valves don't connect with the piston so no bent valves.

Yea, i knew it was something like that ..

Had Brad and Kev over today (and dean in spirit  :P) to give us a hand stripping the cut down, got a fair bit done, engine is pretty much ready to come out. Just need to borrow an engine crane.

Took the cam cover off and it looks like new in there, no sludge at all, so we're happy with that 8) Timing belt looks new, so i'm just going to leave it. Clutch will probably be the only thing changed to cope with the extra power.

Here are some pics:

Thanks for giving me a hand guys 8)

Josh,

Looks like fun!! Don't you love all the fluids that end up all over the garage floor.

There's no turning back now.

was good fun ripping parts of a later model car, lots of work done today, more would have been done if the engine crane turned up :D

Engine looks great, should be a great base to work from.

whats happening with the front bar ? imo you should still put a new timing belt on. it will be easier on the floor than in the car . ( i have done a few this week already) ben + timing belt =

how does one start with a 4efte conversion ie do you modify the subframes etc and new engine mounts to drop the engine in?? + gearbox etc etc etc? can you buy subframes for a conversion like this or it's all trial error swearing etc?

DIY only at this stage...with more trial and hopefully less error :P

if you've got a goodish mini shell and a bit of space go find a starlet gt frontcut and get disassembling...

all it takes is time and a few barrels of elbow grease...well i am no expert...i havent even put the damn thing in my car yet...its hanging on a crane though :P i still need to organise a workbench before i can really get going with the subframe...then its on for young n old!

hmmm...might go have a look at one today...

Slight update from over the weekend..

Got the Turbo + Manifold + Oil & Water Feeds + Power Steering + A/C Off the block so it's looking bare now..

Just waiting on a crane, this weekend and it'll be out, just the rear mount to undo 8)

Image

Then it's on to the frame :D

Look's like me and zuma will keep each other in check ;) 8)

nice...i took all that guff off with the engine out of the frontcut...looked too hard to get it out while in the car :P goodwork getting it out though...my hands are too big and clumsy to manage to get into all the tight spaces in modern engine bays :(

yer catching up to me fast...i bought my workbench yesterday, its being delivered on friday so i'll take some pics and post em when it arrives and is in the "shop"...over the weekend i was camping so not much in the way of movement on the conversion...on monday i managed to take some dimensions off the engine...should hopefully make designing the subframe easier...

any ideas on what yer frame's gonna be like mini mad? we could work on this together if ya want...
