Hi there people,

Firstly, I hope nobody minds me chipping in with my Morris 1100 build up. I know its not a mini, buts its very closely related.

I am also going down the road of the Starlet engine transplant however my approach will be somewhat different to omst of the starlet builds in minis. I plan to use the starlet drivetrain complete with struts and brakes and everything, in the process ditching the hydrolastic, widening the track front and read and incorprating the starlet coilovers on the rear. Mine will also be a bit of a budget build, so I'll be using every last nut and bolt from my halfcut if I can, even the aircon if I can get it to work.

Anyway, so far I have partially stripped my halfcut and pulled the engine from the victim. Once I get the toyota motor out I plan to make a jig to transfer the mounting points to the 1100 then build a subframe to pick them all up and bolt to the car. I'll update progress when it happens.

For now heres a pic of the latest development, the hole I have to fill...

Cheers

Madmorrie,

Welcome to the brotherhood.

To quote a song - "The road is long, with many a winding turn...."

But, the end result is well worth it.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Regards,
Tricky

Floss, the engine bay is a good 150 to 200mm wider I reckon. You can see that the radiator surround it a bit deeper and the battery normally lives on the left between the side and the clutch housing.

I take it you dont need any mini bits any more. I still have them.

Everyone else, thanks for the kind words. Will post pics here when I can and also tryo to keep the site updated.

Hi Guys

Need supplies to create my jig so have turned my attention to trying to formulate a design for a suframe.
Bearing in mind I plan to use the struts and starlet suspension I have to translate the pickup points to the 1100. This is my first attempt at a workable design.

What do people reckon of these. A kind of superimposed top-view with perspective and a view from below with no perspective to clarify how it works underneath. I still need to do proper elevation style drawings.

Also I'm sure this has been asked before but are people just using mild steel for their frames?
