I measured up a commodore V6 and the engine will fit in a roundnose  obviously no radiator or fan, you may have to modify the bonnet and the gear box would be in the cab but I reckon if I had a spare shell that was in poor enough condition and a spare commo drive train I reckon I could get it in and working :P

I thought about this years ago when my cousin wrote off his VN... they're tiny motors! Fuel guzzlers though :(

You want the 1990s front wheel drive GM motor from the USA. It is almost a Commodore V6 with a Camira box (Almost!)

I must admit that I have thought about this before and I'd love to build something like this.

A Kustom Austin 1800.
I call it CRABSLED!

And, just to really piss off the tradiationalists, I would put in a late model turbo diesel V6 from a saab or something.

Aahh, it's a shame that the projects to do list is so long, and the projects completed list so short...

Now that looks cool !!!

My original daydream had been to put the workings from a WRX into an 1800 , steel wheels and hubcaps , granny louver on the back windscreen and go have some fun .

Hi Guys

Time for a bit of an update. Not much in the way of photos for now but I have got a bunch of small stuff done lately. Mounted the drivers seat temporarily on it's new rails, which allows me to finalise position of the gearshift and steering column. Started to make mounts for the radiator which allows me to finalise position of the intercooler and check it for fitment. Have scored a liberty air to air intercooler so now looking at the option of using that.

However the main thing is I am talking to the engineer on Tuseday. I have finally got him out to look at my contraption so should have some feedback on the subframe Tuesday night.

With this in mind I wanted to know if anyone had definitive engine weights for comparision purposes. A-series weight versus 4EFTE weight.

Cheers

Madmorrie

A-series engine and gearbox compared the 4EFTE complete is roughly plus 40 lbs for the A-series.

Thanks Tricky.

Any chance you could give me the figures? I'm sure the engineer is gonna ask.

I'll weigh the0 4EFTE next time I have it out but I can't measure the 1100 as it's sold.

Cheers

The Australian Morris 1100 workshop manual (Leyland TP833A) gives these weights for the 1100 Motor.

Quote:
Weight of components
Engine 254lb. (115kg.)
Gearbox 69 lb. (31kg.)
Engine and transmission assembly 339lb. (154kg.)

But I am not sure if these are wet weights or dry weights or if the radiator and electricals are included.

These weights would be wet and the radiator included
I weighed an A series and it was 150Kg all included.
4efte engine and gearbox is heavier especially with radiator and cooler but not quite sure the exact amount probably 10- 20Kg
