Should have mentioned that the subframe you see was mocked up with found steel instead of the new bends. They used to be trampoline legs!!!!

Well past time for an update, so here goes.

Finally have subframe finished to the point of showing the engineer. Mostly tacked at this point, still some final strengthening webs to go in, but enough to see whats going on and to get his feedback. It’s in the car with the engine in place as of tonight.

Heres some pics.

In the bay.

Not much room in front.

Under car. Rear mount seems very low, may need a slight revision. Also I will notch rear crossmember to allow 3inch exhaust clearance.

Also I have bought a set of RX7 seats to go in. Thats about it for now.

Cheers

Good show MM - cant wait to see the final product.

As Kenno said, that engine bay looks simply spacious compared to ours!

Cheers,
Tricky

Thanks Kevan and everyone else. It feels good to have made some progress. I'm gonna call the engineer tomorrow.

While I can assure you the bay IS bigger than a Mini, it doesn't FEEL spacious in any way. I have only had to cut it in a few places though which is good.

Cheers

I like it. It looks almost factory in there, not all crammed in like in a Mini.

Cheers,

I had one as my first car too. I actually looked at doing this about 10 years ago. I even made a few trips to import wreckers with a tape measure to see what would fit. Ironically enough I very nearly bought a starlet turbo motor for $250. EKW had them and back then no-one even knew what a starlet was. They were only 12 valve motors though. This one should go better anyway.

Thanks Tricky, I have started on the end tank and it's looking good.

Dunno about that Dicko. It looks empty in that shot but there is a lot missing.

I reckon you'd get one in a landcrab though...
