Those brakes are very interesting. You couldn't try a 12" over it could you?

I have a custom clutch setup from a local brake/clutch shop - Organic with pressure plate 25% above standard. The bigger clutch slave is from the Aussie EP91 Starlet. PBR Part# JB9514

Righto, progress we can see!. This weekend I finally got the subframe into the bay. Had to captivate a few of the nuts where clearance is tight, but otherwise it went in OK, just time consuming tightening up all the mounts. Heres hoping it doesn't ever have to come out again!! Thankfully I remembered to sikaflex and screw in the centre panel that covers the spit hole before the frame was in. (You can't get the the bottom screws with the frame in.)

Primed and painted inside the firewall, will be dynamatted so colour is irrelevant.

I then assembled the drivers hub with new ball joints so it's pretty much ready to go in. Sadly the 1100 ball joint kit came with 3 lowers and only 1 upper, so I need to source that before I can get the other side done. Luckily the 1100 shares the top joint with the mini so it shouldn't be too hard to come by.

Also got this in the mail today (new roller foot joint for front arms) so I can just about get the top arms in.

And thanks for all the info guys. With a new a clutch, waterpump, and belts, (and a wash) the motor might be nearly ready to go in.

Sorry Morris, didn't get the chance to try a 12inch wheel over the brakes this weekend, I'd say it has a pretty good chance of clearing though. Once I get then more assembled I'll give it a go.

And finally, a few shots of it mocked up with 4 wheels. Not attached yet, but soon.

And now some questions:
1. Where are people sourcing their ball joints to make sure they are the good ones?
2. Does anyone have the part number or length for the water pump belts people are running with no tensioners?
3. Who does hydro pump ups from empty?

That is looking great, it is all very neat.
What plans do you have for the dash?

If you were a bit closer I would pump the hydro up for you.

For the interior I want to go for a kind of 60's GT feel. Think Alfa Romeo. Black leather or vinyl, maybe diamond stiched. What would be perfect for this would be a genuine 1300 GT interior, but I'd probably have to ship a whole car here to get it. Actually I'd love any 1300 mk3 dash for it, but I've only seen 2 in this country in pristine cars. For now I'll just hack up the standard one to fit the starlet gauges and do it in black wrinkle paint.

The mission now is to finish it. I don't think the engineer will care much about the interior.

I'm fitting a Riley Kestrel dash to my car. I think they are probably the nicest one with the round dials and real wood panels. Not like the plastic wood in the later ones, though they are probably easier to modify with extra gauges.
The dashes come up on Trademe every now and then.

I was having a play with my 1100 over the weekend and I discovered that all the little square holes in the dash rails are for plastic captive nuts to hold the up market dashes in place.
They are the same plastic nuts that are hanging on the Champion rack in Supercheap.

I don't know if this helps but it might be something to file away for future reference.

I've just been re reading my thread, and as near as I can work out, it was this time in 2007 when the 1100 last had all it's wheels on. Well, today I managed to get the hydro water tight and it now sits proudly on 4 15inch RS watanabes. (Possibly the first 1100 to do so?) anyway, on the phone at the moment so can't confirm with a pic, but very happy to pass this milestone! Thanks to everyone on Ausmini, I wouldn't have started without this forum, now one step closer to finishing!

OK, well some progress has happened finally.
I had to make this flaring tool to repair one of the hydro pipes, but with that done and new piece silver-soldered in, I finally got the hydro pumped up and the wheels back on.
