Bloody excellent Phill, and good luck with the business and the conversion.

I wish I was in Sydney for the expo!

Cheers,
Tricky

A friend of mine made one back in 1972, he still has it. At the time he would get about 90 to 100 km range out of it, and he said it could out accelerate a cooper s of the line due to the electric engine. He may upgrade it eventualy, I think he has lost interest in it. If you need any advice, the guy is a genious, I can put you in touch.

I have finally had a bit of time to spend on the Mini and it is on the road again with my batteries in it this time. I will be uploading a heap more photage on the web site tonight.

The test runs were carried out with the maximum current set at 320amps at 144volts as I wanted to play it safe. 320 X 144 = 46080watts or 46.08KW the batteries can put out 600amps but i didn't want to kill them (the batteries) or myself straight away.

Let me know what you think

Cheers Phill

The range will be the same, reducing the amps simply reduces the amount of power you can draw from the pack at once. The battery capacity is still the same it just stops me from being a lead foot. If i increase the amps back to 600, it means i can draw 86.4kw of power at once (144 X 600= 86400watts)

Cheers Phill

It's been gone for about 12 months which is a shame as it all looked very promising
Hope he didn't zap himself.

Hi All

Its been a while since ive been on here. A quick update with my mini, the lead acid batteries were simply to heavy for the car and although it accelerated well and easily sat on 110KM/h, it no longer felt like a mini and lost its nibble feel, I guess thats what you get when you take 80kg out of the front and put 140kg in the rear. I have removed these batteries and sold them and will be hopefully purchasing LIPO4 batteries to replace them in the next 6 months or so. These will weigh about 68kg and have more capacity so untill then the car will sit in my shed collecting dust.

Great news that you're still around cooper69, yeh the leads add a lot of
weight, the lipo's should make it fly and still handle like a mini.
keep us posted on progress.

Have I asked about what drive shafts you used? and
have you had it engineer approved?

Hi,

Found this on Youtube, not sure if it's been posted yet, but figured it needed to be here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9BL0qtt8Gs

Looks awesome by the way.

Do you reckon it would be doable to have 2 smaller motors front and rear and make it 4 wheel drive? or 4 motors even? Would that make headaches from a controller point of view?

Interested in this conversion.

I've got a 1275LS that could use a high-po Vtec
conversion but I'd rather an electric commuter mini.

Any progress using LiFe packs?

Chris.
