that is awesome it is like a giant remote control car !

how much quicker would the battery go flat if you had head lights on while driving?

and what would the top speed be?

very smooth looking conversion much respect

:P

It might affect the range by a km or so, very little affect.

[/quote]what would the top speed be?

I have done a few calculations and the car will easily go faster than I ever want to go in a mini ( over 200km/h). What I wanted more was a car which has excellent pick up from any speed. I will probably only use 3rd and 5th gear ( 3rd for in town 5th for the highway) The car will easily take of in 5th gear. remember electric motors have maximum torque at zero rpm. The 0-100km/h figure should be pretty impressive, thats if I dont break drive shafts. It will have 96kw and about 200nm of torque at zero rpm.

Holy moses  I want to see a dyno sheet but that would be very very impressive

lol - the dyno sheet will look boring.... 2 straight lines, one dead horizontal, and one at an angle

we should all be building one of these - I paid 169.9 cents per litre for fuel today :(

Good project!

I had a swift and the gearbox used here looks identical (for those who asked)

You should remove the gas tank and block the hole...

Would make people have a second look :D

Most of the parts were sourced from the US but there are some places in Aus who are starting to sell the high quality ev parts.
An electric motor is rated differently to an ICE engine, the max volts the motor is recommended for is 196volts but I know of drag cars in the states putting 300volts and more through these motors. It is 88% efficient so if I supply the motor with 109.2kw (700 amps X 156volts) it means the power output will be 96kw. as long as you keep the motor cool there are no problems. The controller is the more important component when you want good performance. The controller I am using can supply the motor with 1000amps at 156 volts = 156kw. But in saying this my batteries will only supply 700amps there for I will only be able to gain 96kw from my motor. again you have to remember electric motors have maximum torque at zero rpm.

The fuel cap and neck will stay on the car but when you open the cap there will be a power point to plug it in to charge.

Cheers Phill

How do you go engineering these type of conversion? Are there special rules for EVs?
The more I hear the more I like it.

Try 171.9 for diesel!!

If we all get on the electric bandwagon, prices for components would have to come down.

Interested to know the weight of the motor, weight and size of batteries. How much extra would Lithium Ion batteries be??

Final Q: Would the setup be better fiited with a CVT auto gearbox perhaps to help utilise than linear torques curve??

Excellent work BTW Cooper69.

Cheers,
Tricky
