You work so quickly, and your metal working skills are a credit to you. (*Pulls jealous face*)

Its pretty difficult to get a conversion to look like its supposed to be there, but you've done well so far!

This will be one super sweet conversion. I cant wait to see it in a few weeks when its completed!!

I had a busy weekend. I worked saturday 9-12:00, 2 coats of paint in two small rooms at the office, went to a couple events for an East Indian wedding, took my dog for a hike and a swim, worked on my beater project Toyota truck (replaced 2wd front fenders with 4x4 front fenders) and got about 5 hours of work in on the Traveller. I went to a free concert in front of our Parliament buildings last night (150 year birthday for my province of British Columbia) and saw some Canadian musical artists, Sarah McLaughlin and Feist were the two main ones I saw.
Anyway, I'm sure nobody cares what I did except the work on the Traveller. But I feel that you all expect that I have made more progress that I have. So I feel the need to explain myself. I have to have some balance in my life to keep my girlfriend happy too you know.
So here are a couple pictures of the box I am building to fill the hole in the firewall to make space for the intake manifold. It is pretty close, but I'm going to make a couple more changes to it before I weld it into the car.

That ute is getting interesting.
With the mini will you be putting the same kind of lifting front on it as that's on your red one?

don't feel that way Nigel - we're happier to hear that you didn't get to spend time on it because then we don't feel like such slackers

You may find you need some form of closed box section to replace the torsional stiffness of the bit cut out. If you've got a tube welded between the sub frame towers, that'll probably do.

I wish I could achieve as much as you do per hour!! No explanation necessary!!

Quick little update, I spent a few hours on the weekend fabricating a box to weld into the firewall to make room for the stock B16A intake manifold and welding it it. There is a bit more welding to go, but the shell is coming along nicely. There is a Mini show this weekend so I probably won't get much work done this weekend, but I'll do some work.

Here are some pics.

Very nice, a bit late now but would it be worth making the bottom of the box angled so dirt and water doesn't sit their  .
And why isn't the shell covered in surface rust? I just notice that it's all bare metal and has been for some time :?

Nice work Nigel,

Was the box TIG'ed ir MIG'ed??

Either way, good work - and fast too!

Cheers,
Tricky

I TIG'ed the box together and MIG'ed it in. The bottom of the box is very slightly angled, but there are a couple connections on the bottom so I couldn't get too close to the bottom of the intake. It's not very humid here in the summer so the surface rust hasn't really started yet. I'm trying to finish up the fabrication on the shell pretty quick here so I can get some epoxy primer on it soon to seal it up.
