Angusdog - I agree stainless is a pain to work with. Sometimes I do it just because I like to weld it. And I happened to have the stainless strips around and a guy have me some decent sized pieces of stainless plate the other day so I figured some stainless tank straps would be nice. Mild steel or aluminum is so much nicer to work with.

I'm glad you enjoy the updates. People seam to enjoy watching the progress either in person or on the web, so I am happy to share. I love watching other builds too. It can sure help sometimes for ideas on your own projects to see how other people do things.

I got the tank mounted with the filler last night. Just have to seal up the tank, leak test it, line it and pretty it up a bit. Then I can start the plumbing to and from the engine.
Here is a shot showing how much of the tank will be showing.

This shows the Honda innards in the filler through the Mini spout.

The tight fit with the cap on. I made it short on purpose so the filler tube wouldn't be seen. Less weight too!

I'm pretty happy with the way it's turning out. May finish up the tank tonight. I've been doing some work in the yard and finishing up my trailer so I can actually use it. I don't need to haul a Mini quite yet, but I have a load of scrap metal to recycle and a load of garden refuse. My girlfriend's Mini broke down a little while ago and my trailer wasn't quite finished I would have been disappointed if I needed it and it wasn't ready. I managed to temporarily fix her ignition system with a piece of my business card and get the car home.

My girlfriend went to the winter olympics in Vancouver for the weekend so I think I will get some more work done on the Mini. I can stay out and work on the Mini until the wee hours of the morn'.

Did some work on the wiring over the weekend, cleaned things up a bit, but have it all sorted out in my head. Now it's just a matter of working through what needs to be done. Got the fuse panel mounted up, which was tricky, now it's just a matter of mounting up the ECU and some of the relays and then adjusting the wiring length between them. Testing out the wiring and then pulling the harness out to tape it all back up and then reinstall it after the car is painted.
Also picked up a 90 degree drive converter for the speedometer to make room for the cable now that I have notched the firewall for the Honda intake manifold.

Here's a little update. I spent saturday and sunday afternoons after work whipping this up. Its 60mm 304 stainless after the header. It's got a resonator, mandrel bends and a big muff. I still need to finish up all the welds, I just tacked it together with the TIG. I need to make a splitter for my shielding gas so I can get some gas on the back side of the welds so they turn out better when I finish the welds. I got a stainless system that was used on a Honda Civic of some sort for half an hour before the guy who had it decided it wasn't what he wanted so he took it back off. So I bought it cheap, cut it up, rearranged some bits and welded it back together. Just incase you were wondering how I got the mandrel bends, and why I built it the way I did. I just used the bends I had and made them all work.
I made the exhaust tip unbolt so that I can take it off so I can:
a. avoid scuffing the rear panel when I remove or install the exhaust
b. clean it
c. clean the paint for the cut out area of the car
d. change the style of exhaust tip easily if I want to
e. make it easier to install or remove the petrol tank
f. so I can make some sort of a baffle to slide into the last section of the exhaust to shut it up a little bit if I want it a bit quieter.

Nice work, as usual. The only issue I have is the bean can sticking out the back belies the nature of the beast within, rather than being a street sleeper...

I'm not going for a total sleeper look. I just want it to look relatively stock at first glance. I think the Superlights and the sports pack flares are going to give it away a little bit. Don't worry it won't look big for too long, it will start looking pretty small and even disappear as I pull away from you. (Evil laugh here).
