Hey all... I've been very slowly working away on my mini... and it's probably about time to start my own thread... Originally (when i bought it) was a 998 taken out to the 1100 mark apparently... I got sick of the electrics so i rewired the entire car and made a bit of a wiring diagram... Now it's getting ripped out and modded to suit the Toyota! Not far into the project really. Done so far: Stripped to bare shell Cut front sub-frame in bits Procured 4efte front cut designed front half of new front sub-frame bought and fitted discs for front end (did this before this car became a project, so they might get swapped out for something a bit bigger later down the track) SO here are some pics up till now.... First of all... a few at the start of the project (just checking that these pics are gonna post properly)

The arrival of the 4EFTE... Checking what needs to be cut.... Removal of radiator surround.. One of the first cuts.. Bit the bullet and cut a big chunk out! The bit that i've just modelled...

So there was actually some of the sides of the subframes left (albeit not much from the looks of it) and still allowed you to trial fit the engine in place?

There is plenty of room on the passenger's side but not on the drivers side (if you fit the motor low enough.

To trial fit, yeah i could've probably kept the sides that were remaining on the subframe. Prob wouldn't be able to top mount the intercooler if you kept them though... And it looked a bit rough thanks to my poor cutting skills!

The higher you bring the motor the more you will have to cut out for the gearbox (at the back). Bring it forward to stop the gearbox from hitting and the oil filter relocator will hit the front subframe mount. Relocate the oil filter relocator. Its a game of cat and mouse.

ah huh.... cool, thanks for the heads up! I've just sent off the drawings for the new front sub-frame (front half only, i.e. radiator mount and top front wishbone pickup). With any luck this will give me a bit more room around the oil filter.

I've happily received my 1st manufactured part for this project today... It's the 1st part of the subframe, all fabricated 3mm MS: I'm pretty happy with the results, and it means a better trial fit and finally being able to sort out where i'm going to put engine mounts. Unfortunately there will need to be some mods done to this part, but hopefully it will form the basis of my front subframe. Top view of the first fit: Front view after lowering the donk: Hopefully the future radiator mount! Assuming i can make an exhaust that doesn't take up a bunch of room.. [/list]

Got a bit more done tonight... just welded up the old holes for the gear shifter and fixed up the floor where someone almost ripped the handbrake through the floor! On another note, can someone tell me if this rear engine mount bracket is meant to be skewed? I think the wreckers gave me a knackered bent bracket - not that it really matter cos it probably isn't goin to fit anyway...

The bracket should be square, but as you say - not that is matters.
