Nope, it doesnt matter, and yes it is bent.

You will just use the part with the rubber mount, and us a made-to-order bracket.

I remember reading someone's project where they'd modelled their exhaust with Solidworks. I was planning on doing the same thing.

Does anyone have some basics on exhaust design? Done a bit of reading and know a little bit about it. But would certainly appreciate anyones experiences.

Would it be possible to make this advice public? Im thinking im going to model up and exhaust manifold in soldiworks.

I've found this:

Which seems to be posted around the place and toted as written by a Garrett Engineer, made for interesting reading.

Other notes i've made so far on design (from around the place):

- Use mandrel bends
- Avoid diameter step downs
- Avoid tight radius turns
- Use a High Flow Cat
- Use a straight through perforated core muffler

As a general rule i'm designing the primaries as short as possible, and as close to equal length as possible.

I'm using slip joints to avoid overstressing due to heat expansion.

Thinking of just using the same bore pipe for the primaries as per the standard EM that came with the 4EFTE.

I have made up several designs in Solid Edge now. Its pretty easy. Gives you a good visualisation before tackling complicated designs.

I made up a log manifold for the stock CT9 just to get the hang of it.. now I'm going to do up one I drew in CAD :twisted:

I'll post a pic or two of some of my designs soon

Nice one Pubudug... I'll look forward to seeing them. I don't suppose you have any dummy models of the 4EFTE block / head / engine assy? or anyone else for that matter?

I've got all my parts modelled in SW and would love to put a representative engine in in the assembly.

this is one I made up for retaining the stock CT9 position. I didn't want to make another dump pipe :lol:

Obviously I didn't pursue this one but went for the good old log manifold

hell of a lot easier to do and works well

I will make a proper one like the CAD model style with a good collector when I upgrade to a TF035 later on. Hardest part would be to make the collector I reckon.. its an interesting profile that has to be cut on each piece of pipe! :(

If you want the model I have I can send it to you..

As for modeling the entire engine block etc.. I thought about it.. did some of it.. then got inpatient and just went for it like everyone else!.. worked out ok.. a bit of a waste of time for a conversion like this one I think..

Yeah nice one, you've even gone to the effort of the weld chamfers!

Here is what i've modelled so far. Going to get the EM plate laser cut in the next few weeks and then get some straight and bends... then start with the girnder and welder!

Turns out i may not be able to do as i thought. It would seem that 2mm wall 32NB and 25NB pipe isn't as readily available in Mild as i would hope.

I've found somewhere that can source all the parts i need in SS schedule 10. Does anyone have any suggestions as to who to talk to in Adelaide about getting MS pipe with 2mm wall?

Already spoken to BDL, Barnett Ent., and another place whose name escapes me...

I wanted to make this from mild and ceramic coat it.

Also, has anyone used a smaller wall thickness than 2mm? I believe you could probably get away with 1.6mm, but i was told otherwise.

Have you tried Blackwoods? They can supply various radius' and lengths of buttweld pipe but not exactly sure on wall thickness available

Tried another 3 or 4 places again today re: pipe with 2mm wall.... but to no avail.

I'm thinking i might make it from 1.6mm, against some peoples recommendations. It will be different in my case as i wont be supporting the weight of the turbo with the manifold. Therefore i cant see too much of a difference with my manifold and an N/A one - maybe a bit of back pressure from the turbo?

It seems that if this is where it stays, i might be able to get away with the standard oil filter adapter, can anyone tell me the function of the threaded hole on the left of this photo? I didn't strip the front cut, so not familiar with it.

I think it locates a drip tray that sits under the oil filter. The drip tray ensures no oil drips onto the A/C pump beneath the filter location.

Not something you need to worry about given that its unlikely you will fit a/c.

1.6mm pipe for an exhaust manifold will crack very very quickly within a week of use.
Just use black pipe and but weld elbows, the pipe can be sourced from most steel shops the elbows can be bought from blackwoods but they are expensive. The pipe wall is about 2.5mm any thinner is no good.

'92' are you referring to exhaust manifolds for turbos? Or just in general? I understand that if you're hanging a turbo off a exhaust manifold and there is elevated temps you would need a thicker wall. But if there is no turbo hanging off it, do you still think 1.6 will be too weak?
