Well we hav'nt touched the car for about a month as i have been working
on the other mini

Got a fair bit done today, as you will see by the pics the van is no longer
a van

I have always wanted a ute and when we decided to build a hillclimb car
the extra length of the van would suit, then i thought a ute would look tuff
so here we go

First we measured up the roof and decided where we would cut the roof
after setting the seats up and making plenty of room for my lanky legs

Image

Stripped the back windows out and took the barn doors off

Image

We welded the frame hoop in

Image

Then we sliced the end of the rear quarters out one at a time and put the
top brace in,we didnt want the slopping forward van rear end so we are
having it flat which i think looks much better

Image

After welding both braces in it was time to cut off the roof

Image

Out with the trusty plasma and away we go

Image

Image

Image

I cut just below the window line so we can use the window opening for
the rear window

Wolla A ute

A couple of shots of the motor

As I was reading through I thought I'd have to tell you to wedge the rear out so it would be vertical like the real utes but then I saw you had already thought about it :D , such a good idea, it makes them look so much better.
Are you concerned about rigidity of a ute or the lighter rear end?

I love it, I love it, I love it.

Perfect proportions with the lengthened cab and vertical back end.
Can't wait to see it finished! :D

Hi kennomini
Yeah looks much better, not concerned about the ridgidity
once the roll cage goes in, i'm building it into the tray area and having it cross braced, as for the rear end we'll put some big arse camber brackets
and a bag of concrete :D :D :D

Hey James i promise to put the angle grinder away when you come down :D
