Yeah I like the idea of megasquirt. Haltech is cool they do a plug and play dash setup amd data loggers etc but can't afford that sort of stuff :(

Yep, I would sell the MS for less than 20% of what the PS1000 cost. The upside of the PS is that there is a tuner I trust who specialises in them where MS tuners are few and far between. I wasn't happy with they guy who tuned it for my supercharged mx5

yeah, you need to be able to set it up and tune it yourself with a megasquirt

Megasquirt it is. Another question. Is my Holley fuel pump alright as a feeder for a swirl pot followed by the high pressure pump or do I need something with more balls?

I was thinking today, you ought to check out the swift GTI forums (redlinegti?) for what ECUs are popular - always better to have someone to ask specific questions

Pass on the swirl pot stuff, I don't have one - I reckon the mini fuel tank is so vertical that theres no real risk of starving the pump from fuel sloshing around

I use a Bosch 070 (VL turbo) pump that feeds my 1.6litre swirl pot, then a Bosch 044 that feeds from there to the fuel rail.

The best way to set it up is:

Tank pickup to an EFI filter, then to the 070, 070 to the second highest nipple of the swirl pot.
From the lowest point of the swirl pot (normally 3/8 for our application) feed the 044.
With the return from the rail, run that to the 3rd barb from the top.
From the highest nipple on the swirl pot, run that to the return port of your tank....

(excuse the dodgey pics, the photobucket app plays havoc on my phone!)

Works fine for me 8)

The best designs put the swirl into the swirl pot by having the incoming ports tangential to the side walls. This spins the fuel around the sides and is meant to eliminate the small bubbles or frothing that can occur and cause issues with fuel pressure and lean running.

Of course, if the swirl pot is full with no air, there can't be any bubbles so using the arrangement described above works perfectly until the main tank is nearly empty.

Cheers guys. Is there a pump similar to the 070 that can take speedflow fittings?

Well I've been told my welder is finally getting worked on but $600 later I'm pissed about the thing.. However it will be back soon and proper work can continue.

Here's what I've done lately

Got new throttle bodies so I can run injection, triumph tt600 ones which are perfect as they don't have injectors in them, I rounded the inlet holes and spaced them out too so the manifold will be easier to make.

Image

Need to figure out how to mount them, from over the top, to how I had the carbs I don't know..

Image

Image

Also started on a brace bar / bonnet catch setup for the front but can't do it properly without my welder

Image

Image

All looks sh!tty until it's welded and attached properly but it's progress.. I tidied the wiring up too but that doesn't make for exciting viewing..

Well.. My work stopper has finally returned so it's full steam ahead to get this thing finished!

Image

To celebrate I welded the crap out of everything I'd made over the last couple of weeks including the bonnet hinge supports and subframe brace bars. I need to add the bonnet catch brackets but I'm not sure how I want to make them yet. Radiator bracket now comes off that too, nothing exciting, but all necessary.

My engine has been neglected so long it's grown a winter coat

And yes it all clears the headlight bowl.. By about a mm lol

Image

Today I made one of the two coil over load spreading brackets.. Pretty happy with how it came out and it's a bit of over kill but it will keep the engineer happy and the shocks attached to the car.. I've added an extra set of bolts too. The tiny little original ones just don't cut it in my opinion

Need to get a mig to get to the tricky areas as the tig is too fiddly for it.

Image

For the record 50 year old steel doesn't seem to weld as nice as new stuff..

That's all for now. Much more frequent updates now I have my welder though

Cheers.

I've been helping build a deck for the weekend but I did get a couple of hours to do some work. I started on some seat mounts but wasn't happy with how they looked hence my other topic in this forum. Will probably go for a weld in bar jobbie

I got over the wildwood clutch slave and have decided to go with a mini one.. Simple task to make a plate for it, I'm not 100% sure where it should be mounted on the lever arm but I did have it working and it felt ok where it is! can't really tell I guess until it's going. Plate needs some angle grinder love to make it look better but happy enough with it for now

Image

Made the clutch line to add to my other masterpieces...

Image

Also took the time to do a job I wasn't looking forward to for the 4th time and make an inlet manifold.. Must admit it's not my greatest tig welding achievement but it will work. Tried to make this one as straight and long as I could.. Hopefully it makes happy noises.

Image

Image

Plan is with these to run a px600 air box with the air feed going to a naca duct on the bonnet. This means il have to relocate the master cylinder reservoirs but that's ok. I feel like I'm doing everything 3 times but I guess when you do things differently that's to be expected.

I also made a new gear selector In a more sensible through the floor setup, but I haven't taken any photos of that I forgot!

Cheers

Sean
