hi guys, saw this on the topgear site the other day and thought this might be an option for a mini conversion in the future. theres a few links to articles and vids below, but a few stats for those that arnt interested in reading.

Ford ecoboost 1 litre (999cc) 3 cycline engine
block is the size of an A4 sheet of paper
125 horse power 170 Nm torque 92Kw
Image
2.4L/100 km at 56km/h
5.0L/100km at 120km/h
handled 151Kw with stock engine just a bigger turbo around the nurburgring in 7 mins 22 sec (that put it between the Dodge viper acr and corvette on the leader board)
engine weighs 97kg

I believe they are coming in 2013 or 2014 here, but one of the articles I read said the production facility for the 1L engine was expecting to turn out 750,000 to 1,000,000 engines annually. So should be plenty avaliable in the future :)

That power is getting into bike performance out-put territory, not bad at all for a factory engine (their for warranty and reliability).

f*ck me - I really really want one of them - 200 torques at 2600rpm - that's what I want

had a turbo diesel landcruiser (they're what - 4 litres??) on the dyno tonight and its peak was 230nm at 2300 and died in the ass after 3000

the stuff they can do with direct injection is just magic

Amazing engine... That much torque from a production 1L petrol is insane.

The exhaust manifold is cast into the head, not sure if that would cause an issue in a conversion? with a block that small it might not matter...

probably not, I'd expect it to be a lot more compact because there's less plumbing...

but realistically, the block isn't "that" small - an A series block isn't much bigger than an A4 sheet of paper, lop off a cylinder and it'd be the same size

Good replacement

I am in Northern Italy at the moment on holidays and today I saw a Focus drive past with "3 cyl Ecoboost ads plastered all over it". If it's good enough to power a Focus, it will power a Mini VERY well. And with only 3 cylinders, it should fit very well too.

I would be very keen to put it in my mini given half a chance, having a look around here is the current fiesta engine,

https://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=22999 - Approx. 8000 USD as a crate engine. twice the wight of the little 3 cyl though - they expect it to only be 217 pounds 98ish kg :S

This is the conversion I'd love to do too!

This is an awesome little engine with a lot of punch for it's size.

The engine comes in the WZ fiesta and EcoSport, in the Australian market.

(disclaimer- Yes I do work at Ford PD)

Need to wait for a few wrecks to get one.

I would gladly post ford stickers all over my car if they gave me on or made a gearbox that has 2 sitting on the top
