Should fit (just) with a modified exhaust etc.. Have you spoken to an engineer about it? Could present some issues. Good luck though looks cool

Doesnt Dicko have one of these lying around....???

Cheers,

I did, and mine was the BPT 4WD version, but it has now gone to a new owner. Would have loved to do a 4WD mini with it all.

bolted the front and rear subframes in today to get it rolling, cut out some of the front subframe to see how close the motor will fit for things like cv joint clearence, with a bit of modifications to the diff it will now clear the rack and with some massaging of the fire wall the intake manifold fits. I will need to run a dry sump to get the motor to sit low enough and to clear the track rod and the rh guard

It would be at that point personally I would question the need to use that motor...

i know there are other motors that have been put into a standard length round nose without the need for dry sump, but this is/will be (to my knowledge) the only mazda powered mini.

Yea, i think i agree. I guess it depends on how much you are willing to spend and trouble you are willing to go thru. And if the result is going to be worth all that trouble and expense.
You unfortunately might find that the money you may have saved on the engine will quickly used up if you need to go to so much extra effort just to fit it in there.

But dont be too put off by me.
If thats what you really want to do, go for it

:D

I have played with dry sumps on race cars. It is not that hard to do, it is just a bit fiddly to make.
We used to get a stock sump and then fold up the pan shape we wanted, a bit of cutting and a bit of welding and the sump was made.

Fair enough :)
But if you are not worried about cost, why not pick a slightly newer engine to use???
A BP is an ok engine, but they are getting pretty old now, and weren't really that amazing even when they were new.
I would hate to see you go to all that effort to put it in, then be disappointed with the performance of the result . :D

Just because something is different, doesn't necessarily mean its a good idea. Just take a look at a delorean.

people have got 250+ hp out of them in n/a form, the motor will not be the standard 1.8 it will be stroked to a 2.2, set of cams and head work should make it go alright, the bp was used in the mx5 untill 2005 and after owning a few tx3's both n/a and turbo i know how strong they are. A honda conversion is out of the question because i just dont like them, rover is out because they are hard to find and get parts for, vauxhall is out because im a ford fan, 4efte and g13b are out because i want big capacity. I would go for a ford motor but they are mazdas anyway!
