Hi Moemoke,

This frame is setup to use the mk3 engine mounts the car used originally, so no need for land rover mounts or anything else. One each corner at the front, one at the back in the middle. I'll add a stabiliser too, though its probably not really needed.
I bought a mk1 block as a spare - it would still attach the same as the holes are in the same spot. Its the gearboxes that mount up differently.
Alternator will go on backwards next to the timing cover.
Haven't had the frame in the car yet, but will soon hopefully.
:D

I'm pretty happy with this. The frame went into the car without dramas, and the engine fit into the car first go, do I don't need to move my engine mounts or anything.
I can get straight into sorting the alternator and manifold mods.

Have you had to cut any internal guards yet, will you need to for the altenator etc?

that bar looks crazy low at the front? mine is not that low at all with the sump..

you might find it's going to scrap on speed bumps etc..

i can try get you some measurements from mine from the ground if you need? cons subframe is pretty differnt & not tube.

i have a mk1 sump it's bigger & still heaps of clearance.

could be the angle though..

but very good effort harley top work!

I also wondered about the lower bar, what's the height off the ground? and why is the front apron cut out?

Kenno - inner guards are cut from the top of the subframe tower down to the bottom of the grille. I'll have to trim some more on the drivers side for the alternator - havent got that far yet. With the bar at the correct ride height, its about 5 inches off the ground.
Front apron is cut out so I could get the frame in there. Most people have bolt on front bars to get around this issue, but I wanted a one piece frame.

NG - The car is sitting pretty low, but that photo there is with the guards sitting on top of the tyres and no bumpstops. The sump on this car only sits 5-10mm lower than the sump of an a-series engine. The lower crash bar exaggerates how low the car is.
If I get worried about the sump I have a spare one here I might shorten, but then the gearbox becomes the low point.

Progress for the rest of the weekend:

Got the gear linkage sorted -surprisingly easy, just shorten the linkages by 8 inches, weld the piece of floor from the suzi into the mini and its done. The bigger transmission tunnel in the rover will leave plenty of room for an exhaust.

I also cut the inlet manifold down. This will require a bit of work - I'll have to reposition the throttle body with a spacer the clear the fuel pressure regulator, if I don't relocate it to the other side of the manifold.

Image

Alternator has also been looked at. There's actually enough room for me to mount it up the top of the engine, it just means I'll need a couple of belt idler pulleys as the crank, pump and alternator are all in a line if I put it up there.

And another pretty cad pic for the heck of it:

Progress report for this weekend isn't all that dramatic, I took the day off from building on saturday to take the other mini for a decent 200km run. All good there.
:D

I started playing around with the clutch but trying to keep the cable setup is proving difficult - reason I was trying to do that was I thought it'd be easier. Might look at hydraulic.

Also picked up an exhaust manifold. Big thanks to meeni for help on that one. :D
A slight adjustment to the pipework for some clearance and it's nearly good for a full weld out.

Ha - thats smurfys car. Thats the one I was trying to copy but it's harder than it looks - particularly when the engine is in the car.
