Yeah Andrew, mate what can I say? Still when you think about it, there must be plenty of the EFI Starlets around (a good proportion came with EFI) so getting a TPS should be pretty straightforward. Also as I said mine has a slightly different plug than the original so I will have to get an new plug and graft it on. Not a biggy but you know...

Matt,

May disappear down to the wreckers on Saturday - just to poke around (TPS country).

Anyway - When are we going to solve this bloody alternator problem? I've been thinking, what about a custom exhaust manifold offset to the RHS slightly to give us a bit more room on the LHS for the alternator?

Andrew

Im not sure if this would work but if you cant find room you could make a set using a setup like the new PWR supercharger for LS1's. You could mount a pulley in a position similar to the original starlet alternator mounting point (behind the engine) and run a rod to the other side and mount the alternator on the right hand side of the engine. Im not sure if I have explained this correctly but could be a possibility. If no one understands I will try and draw a diagram.

Minster, mate you know what that really isn't a bad idea. It is quite vacant across the back of the engine so you could defintely pass a rod along the back and the space over the gearbox would provide the space so...Might give it some thought. Also Andrew, if we can source some of these remote oil filter setups this may also provide an answer...

Just saw yours Brad I have a feeling given how little room there is that this will be my fallback position and I have feeling the only solution mate, very ingenious. When I first started I had your solution in mind for the alternator issues.

92, that's different from how I remember I had the impession that it was actually located at the front that might be doable as your sits a little bit further back than mine but not that much so I might have a look once the engine is in for the last time (god knows when...).

Minster,

I saw a setup like this in Mini Mag of a guy who did it with a VTEC install.

Pulley on LHS, then transfer shaft ran right across the front of the engine to alternator on the RHS. The shaft was supported by two bearings on the engine block. IMHO - looked like a horses arse, but hey, he had no where else to put it.

92 - that looks good. Just wondering how my engine sits in the bay in relation to yours, should be little difference. I will investigate further.

Matt - I think I will use Brads idea as a fallback position as well, but was thinking of mounting my booster up under the LHS front guard, so might be tight fit. Thanks Brad for the pic. I wont know anything until the motor goes back in. Still no word from QLD transport!!!!!

A very frustrated Andrew!!

Andrew, I meant why not put your booster over the gearbox there is a fair amount of room even once you put the electrics etc in...

Oh sorry Matt, must have just been me having a blonde moment.

I thought you meant put the alternator overe the gearbox.

Yeah can do, actually probably preferable as it is easy to get to. There is a lot of stuff to still go in though, like fuse box etc.

Question for you and Brad - are you intending to install the charcoal canister ala the original Starlet of dump these extraneous devices?
