Hi all just chasing some info, I've come across a company in uk, all speed engineering. They do vtec subframes. Has anyone used one, what's it like in terms of getting it to comply here. Would it save time do you think. Save an engineer coming to check on work. Just a thought , I have tried to search this but didn't come across anything

Matt

you will still need an engineer regardless,

that said i beleive the allspeed subframes need an extended front to work

I believe the track stays standard and with a different injection system you can minimise bulk head mods. From what I have been reading anyway. It will be going in clubman too so will have enough room too..

there's also this mob in the usa that do honda frames but offer a bit more variety in which you can use.

http://www.superfastminis.com/index.htm

that being said, mini & moke world also made a V-tec frame as a racecar and may be able to make you up 1 cheaper than getting 1 from the UK as there located in NSW

I looked into all speed when I was starting my Suzuki conversion, the cost of it all was too much for me to justify for a box section frame.. A lot of uk guys use them though. I don't think they're the type that was refered to as illegal because of wide track? That was the American one?

Either way, bit money for something you could DIY pretty easily

I reckon it's not too bad. I was quoted $2500 recently just for mocking up. Add to that parts and time for welding etc. To be able to build a frame you also need an engine for dimensions. But you can buy the frame knowing it's going to fit 99%. And also know the engine will fit. I also like the fact that the framing is integrated into the towers whereas some of the homebrew frames have tubes 'hanging' off the towers. For those that don't have time to put one together, CAD one on the PC or are engineeringly clueless, I think it's great. (Shipping is a killer though.)

Yeah I think it ended up closer to 5 grand with all the fruit + shipped,

I made a "home brew hang off the towers" frame which has no strength issues for about $200 but If your not keen on having a go yourself I can understand what you mean fully

Shocking exchange rate. I'd have a go tomorrow if I had the time but more importantly the equipment and skill.

I was under the impression that modifying the original subframe was OK, as long as it met strength and safety requirements, but that a new subframe would make the car unregisterable unless certified as an ICV.

Maybe that has changed? Or maybe I was just wrong?

Regardless for the cost it has to be worth buying it as is. With the exchange rate your looking at around 1000- 1100 bucks. You should be able ship well under 500 bucks as I got a price for two engines on crate from uk to Perth that was 500 . Could save a lot of initial hassle
