What engines have people installed successfully in there minis?

I'm looking at an engine conversion, and want to keep FWD, and prefer a car motor over a bike engine. I'd like to hear from those out there that have already done the hard work to fit a different motor, so I can figure out which way to go.

This is long term of course, probably won't happen for 3-5 years, but I want to start planning soon. I've got a 78 clubbie van that I reckon would be a perfect start 8) 8) .

Cheers
matt

I know mine is not the easiest of fits, but I wanted something different,
so I've shoehorned a Subaru EJ20 (no, not the turbo WRX) motor, gearbox, suspension, brakes, wiring loom.... well EVERYTHING is subie except:
master cylinder - honda civic
seats - mazda mx5
radiator - aluminium nissan
windscreen wipers - moke

but it still aint finished yet

I'm interested in a honda v-tec engine for a hillclimb car. They say you use a modified front metro subframe that has been lengthend 90 mm.You can then fit the 5 speed gearbox and you have around 160 BHP.It would cost a fair amount of money to get the 1275 up to that amount of BHP and then of course you have the engine weight difference.I notice a few people like the Starlet and Suzuki GTi conversions.

The 4EFTE engine seems like the best option at the moment for a clubby. Im going to be putting a daihatsu CB70 engine into my roundnose once I get some time to trial fit it and weld up an engine frame for it. I already have the engine and everything ready to go.

The CB70 has 105 hp stock and can make up to 140-150 wheel HP pretty easily from the looks of things.

A daihatsu ? Something different.
I have a SRI Holden Barina 2 LTR that goes like the clappers,I wouldn't mind a Holden in a roundnose.I wouldn't mind the turbo 2 LTR Astra ethier, don't know if they would fit ( running into the rain, tape measure in hand) :)

That daihatsu is a nice motor. Don't suppose you've got round to weighing it yet?
Be interesting to compare with an A series / 4efte / CB70 all including g'box.
