had a few chats about this.... I measured one up a while ago, but decided the honda AWD I got is a better bet for the first go at it. However, I reckon it'd fit, quite easily in a clubbie, roundie is too short in the nose, same reason the Starlet motor won't go in - the turbo hangs off the front.

Here's a short thread about someone thinking about it... http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... highlight=

Aparently thre is a jap car that runs the same 3 cyl turbo motor as the cappucino but it run AWD. Cant rmember what model the car is but it's not much bigger than a mini so size would not be a problem

many have said anything is possible with enough money and engineering but sr20 may be pushing it imho
but would be sweet as it is a great engine

http://www.ringmini.de - I'm copying this setup, same motor and driveline, but gonna try a different rear subframe setup, along the same lines as this one http://www.mini.brubak.no/index.htm (thread here: http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5864)

There was also apparently one in Miniworld, based on an AWD Fiat Punto, I missed the mag

I still can't get over that guy in TME who fitted the rover V8 into the Clubman and it still looked reasonably stock from the outside.I love big idea's ,until I look at the budget.Fitting the engine isn't always the expensive part,it's all the modifications that go with it.That would be an awesome car, make sure you allow plenty of money for the rollcage.

My dad's involved in drag racing in Qld.I remember there was an MG or Sprite that raced for many years with a 427 and was well engineered and successful.

Heard a few people talk about it, no-one brave (stupid?) enough to do it.

Having been told that I wouldn't be able to fit an Impreza motor into a Moke
only made me more determined to do it

Like Marc said, anything is possible, but you would need to plan carefully &
consult with an engineer first. Good Luck :)

Oh, and Ozmotorsport - you're thinking of the Suzuki Alto Works,
but all the Kei class jap cars have a 660cc & 47kw max. limit.

I actually really seriously thought about this conversion for a long time before going starlet..

The main problem is that you can't get it street legal...

A mini can only have a 2litre n/a motor or a 1.6litr turbo

So that ruled out the GTIR for me.

Baracade

Oh by the way i have been getting prices on custom AWD dog box's for the starlet motor... think the posibility!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
