I pulled the fuel tank out today and found some fuel seeping out the bottom. Thanks to all the feedback on the net I think POR15 tank sealer will be required.

Some feedback required about fuel tank capacities........how many kms/miles do people get out of their SPI/MPI tank with a B16A?
Is it too small or OK?

Given the engine would have originally used around 8 litres / 100km or better, then you should be able to get 300km on a tank easily with a good reserve.

My plan is to run standard tank and fit either a small fuel cell, right hand tank or just a big fuel cell later if I need more capacity.

I always wanted a RH tank as my supercharged engine used to chew up a fair bit of fuel. I pushed the button last night and ordered it.

Mfactory LSD diff and final drive arrived. New diff bearings came with it too.
Installing the bearings was as simple as heating them up with a heat gun till they started to smoke a little (this expands the bearing) then just dropped them onto the diff. No press required.
I also painted the subframe and its components. Looks pretty good I think.

Probably the best investment to date. Putting the engine in or out will be a breeze now. Wheel removal, suspension adjustments...the list goes on.
I had to hang her from the ceiling though to get the hoist under but well worth it.

So I'm 2 days into a 4 day weekend and finally making some progress. Subframe was painted a couple of weeks ago so I was able to get straight into it.

- Programmed the mini fuel sender to the Honda fuel gauge using the Spiyda fuel gauge wizard
- Replaced the timing belt, tensioner, cam seals and crankshaft seal
- Replaced the sump gasket (even painted the sump)
- I mounted the new Walbro fuel pump to the original mini fuel pump bracket
- I made up some 5mm steering rack limiters
- Fitted the rocker cover with new gaskets
- Put the engine into the subframe (For the last time. Fingers crossed)
- Alternator and belt fitted
Then lowered the car onto the engine. The new hoist made this part simple. Worth every penny.

Leyland modified the standard Mini & Moke steering rack to enable 13" wheels to be used on the Moke, otherwise the tyres would rub on full lock. I realise it's too late for your project but I thought it might be of interest to show the engineering drawings that documented the change. Similar approach to yours but a bit more permanent by using steel and welding in position.

Good to know. If I use my 13x6 sport pack wheels then I might not need them so easier to remove if not require.

Progress on the car at the moment is a bit like building a house. Right now I'm at that stage where heaps is getting done but from the outside it looks like nothing has changed.

Brake lines done. Some creative bending to make it fit.
Drive shafts together
New wheel bearings installed
New brake discs
New 4 pot minisport calipers
Suspension fitted

Hey Dutchy,

What's the weight difference between the two engine set ups, do you need to upgrade the spring you have hiding in there and the dampers?

Maelgwn

P.S Loving the build log, great work :D
