Another couple of hours has seen the inner guards removed, the front panel opened up, the dash pulled out & the pedal box removed. No turning back now.

I started draft 1 of my subframe on the weekend and dropped the engine in. As expected the steering rack is going to cause problems. I replaced the bolt with a counter sunk screw and ground the rack back but still no good. I can't afford to move the engine forward or else I will not get the radiator in and the drive shafts will be on too much of an angle. I have read other posts about the steering rack but I think I am going to have to work on another solution. I also don't want to cut the floor to push it back either.. Fun and games. I Used 50x25 RHS but thinking it might need to be 40x25 If you have any other ideas on a rack solution then let me know.    Birds eye view of the steering rack

40 x 25 isnt a standard size (unless you can find some 1.5 x 1"). I would've preferred that size but got stuck with the 50x25. If i started again I'd probably look at 30x30. |

40x 25 would be ideal but not available as you both mention. The closest I can get is 38x25x2mm Galvanised RHS (rather than painted) so I am off to the steel supplier next Monday to purchase some for Draft 2 next weekend. The Engineer has approved it too which is a bonus. The extra 10mm space will make a big difference I reckon. |

If your engineer has approved it thats good, but when you go to the steel supplier make sure you check if that imperial steel size has an AS/NZS 1163 standard and an absolute minimum 250 mpa tensile strength. Anything less and you'll get problems with the frame cracking. |

Anything less and you'll get problems with the frame cracking. Yep, all approved. 38x25x1.6 RHS All Gal tubing. I have just ordered it and pick it up Thursday. Ready for the weekend. On another note, I have cut away another 5-7mm from the rack and sealed it back up. Every mm helps

The RHS is not common and so I had to order it in. The steel place didn't even know it existed. Ha it is also 350 grade so should be ok. Also, The frame must have supporting lower legs from front to back and gussets where the new frame meets the original frame. |
