It seems many (most) Importers will tell you:
1:"We just sold the last one"
2:"Yeah we sell them all the time"
3:"We just ran out of stock"
4:"We have another shipment coming in 3 weeks, there should be one on there"
5:"We've sold all the stock but you can order one"

Do they learn this at some shonky sales school, the sales guys seem to be so convinced with their spiel they think you believe it.

I have left a standing order with over 10 importers that the next time they get an engine they advertise in stock to contact me and in the 6 months in between no call. Hmmm

I even contacted the magazine they advertised in and explained my concerns with their advertisers and they tried to explain there were some "good" business opperators out there. I figure they must be hiding!

Came across a local wrecker who wanted $3800 for a Vtec front then wanted me to pull off all the parts and return the frame and panels back to them. Man this guy took the cake and when I called him 3 months later he still had the engine he told me would sell if I didnt give him my card number over the phone.

Maybe there is a business in high volume low profit front cuts, maybe we can place a volume order

Besser I know how you feel. I gave up in disgust at one stage, and finally managed to track down a Starlet from Rolin. Other models like Suzuki GTI's forget it...

Besser,

Contact Rolins on the Gold Coast, IMHO they were good to work with and i never had any issues. Even gave me a VLSD for the same price as standard Starlet front cut (winks at Minstar as he says it and gives him a dig in the ribs).

I have one Vtec and been looking for another.

In NZ they are around $1500-$2000 for a front cut
In Aus they are around $3000-$4500 for a front cut

I think the local guys are a bit greedy. I confronted one with this and he told me he only had quality engines! Ha. I accepted this and asked to look at one! I then asked him If he new the last owners and could name him? We then had a colourful discussion on the finer points of trying to sell me an engine he had no proof of quality apart from it not smoking when run on the pallet. I offered him $2500 and my services for perfecting his sales skills, he offered me the door and some new words for the vocabulary.

So I'm now discussing with another importer over 2 vtecs one with 127K and the other 170K on the clock and these are still priced high.

We need a Ausmini connection in NZ to source parts for Local members. Anyone interested, could be worth your while.
