Hi there, can R1 engined classic Minis be registered in Australia/Victoria? Are there threads I haven't stumbled across on this conversion? Cheers

This has the R1 conversion and is rego'd in VIC. I don't have any details but there is a sign in the photo for RM? performance products.

I think that one might have been a pro-motive kit: http://www.pro-motive.co.uk/index.php?page=r1-kit

The difficulty with motorbike engines in particular is that they need a mechanical reverse - the pro-motive kit has a reverse gearbox which solves this problem.

Some UK minis get around this with an electric reverse. But I've also heard of people getting away with no reverse at all - but for a road car that sounds like a nightmare to me.

I think a big issue is also the emissions that these bike engines put out.

Thanks guys, RM Performance is not far from home for me so I will look into it further with them.

There was one in Adelaide for sale a few months ago but it hadn't gone through a rego check. Not sure who bought it or where it is now. Maybe someone on here will remember it. Here is a photo of it anyway.

Our Dept of Tpt Engineer Guy here in Brisbane has approved us to fit bike engines into minis with starter motor as reverse gear.
