I would check with an engineer re getting it mod plated. I floated this idea past my engineer ( 12 months ago ) whom is doing the engineering on an westfield clubman clone ICV I'm building. He had concerns about the electric reverse from memory. Not to rain on your parade, but I'd just check.

Clubman kit car/ICV is a completely different set of issues regarding things like R1 engines as, being a 'new' car they have to pass emissions... Not a concern with most Minis as all but Leylands predate the emissions ADRs.

Motorbike engines in cars are a bit of an odd one with gearboxes and all that... Unlike in the US and UK where they seem to more or less do whatever they want!

My understanding of the ADR's is that you have to comply with the emissions of the date of the car or the engine, whichever is the newer.

Thanks Matt, I realize this - having jumped through the hoops while building the ICV. I spoke to the engineer re doing this very same conversion on a Mini (1970) that I have when he was doing a progress inspection on the ICV clubman. I'd still check though, as he is a well respected engineer that deals with Qld transports' idiosyncrasies. That's all I'm saying.

Ha! Qld Transport. I've had a few dealings with the re unusual vehicles over the years, depends on who you get and on which day as to what rules apply and what will pass. Absolute circus when it comes to anything out of the box.
There's Australian Design Rules and there's Queensland Design Rules, be aware they're not always the same. :-)

Well done...looking good...

Any idea on the weight of the R1 engine package? I'm fairly sure it will be substantially less than the 333Lb/151Kgs of Mini engine and box...
