Hi guys, i haven't really posted anything here but i thought it is about time i shared with you what i am upto with my morris mini k 1970.
After a long time contemplating whether to do the conversion i finally just did it and purchased the kit!! I am new to the Classic mini scene, my wife has owned
the bmw mini cooper S models and now owns a countryman, while i was always into my euro fords (ford escorts, cosworth sierras etc) i bought this mini with intentions to modify but
argued with myself whether to do it to this car or not! anyway....

So, i purchased the LynxAe kit from the uk because i didn't have to modify the inner wings of the mini and i could retain the standard radiator position along with the kit coming with an LSD standard over the Promotive kit!

i purchased a 2002 5pw Yamaha R1 bike complete so i could make sure everything works as it should!!

after a few hiccups in transit the kit arrived and i am totally happy with what i have received for my money and i am tackling the wiring and planning out what i need to do wiring wise! anyway i will post pics as i go!, for now i will post a few pics of what I'm dealing with and the bits i have to date!

I hope that the build is something of interest to you guys!
I have tried to upload pics however i need to downsize them! hopefully the one i could load aren't too hard on your eyes!!

Cheers

Ty

I am going to be going a push button start! i bought this from Jaycar, and i also bought a speed correction box so i can use the R1 dials (at this stage i want the car to look standard so will be doing my best to retain the standard indicators fuel gauge, oil pressure and coolant temp but obviously will need the digital speedo and revs from the R1 dials. i will try somehow to design a cover to make the gauge look more car like (i will try attach a pic of something which i am thinking of, But something to sit in the dash not on the steering column like the pic attached.

Get yourself some of these...then find your Mini K badge and see if they fit  8)

HA, yeah i still have the R1 fuel tank with the Yamaha badges. i dont have the mini k badges on the car however a friend has a mini k also and the size is nearly identical. alternatively i could have the Yamaha badge made for the centre caps on my rims!

Very cool project!
How is it progressing?

As a side note, any more background on your past Euro fords?

Im still waiting to get my bike engine back from the bike shop. I sent it in as i had a few difficulties removing the flywheel to replace the stator and i had them fix some corroded water pipes. (long Story) its been at the shop for two month or so now. So holding up my progress. Once the engine is back i can finish off my wiring and fit the engine! I'm hoping by June July its all running!!

As for the euro fords I started with a mk3 ford Capri 2.8 injection, had numerous mk1 and mk2 escorts, had a ford sierra cosworth, had a 2wd and 4x4 sapphire cosworth! an was lucky enough to own rs500 sierra cosworth. All in the past!! now I'm enjoying my mini morris!!!

Hopefully i can post some updates soon!

How do you think you will go passing rego, just out of curiosity?

The car is already registered, I suppose the question should be, how do I think I will go getting a modification plate?!! I see no reasons why it can not be given a QLD blue plate, If you see reason why it shouldn't id like you to share! as far as I can see my "modification" is a lot less of a mod than a GT starlet turbo engine or Honda etc etc. plus I don't think it contravenes any QLD mod rules.

I have just collected my engine (long story) and hopefully the engine will be installed into the mini ASAP!
I can not wait to post progress shots and share with you all!

As a side note, I will be getting a blue plate as I want to be able to drive the car on the road!

Cheers

We're thinking of doing a similar thing - would be very interested in an emissions test result from a 5PW mounted in a mini

So i have made some progress on the conversion, i have been really busy so time has been hard to come by.
I had some tools made up so i could tighten the reverse gear and sprocket onto the engine.

I have also removed the 1100 engine and dummy fitted the engine frame to make sure everything lined up
Please excuse the untidy engine bay, i took this pic right after i removed the engine and was excited to test fit the frame

I removed the whole exhaust system and was so excited i was trying to work out the best way to mount the motor bike muffler, i think this looks the best
and i can not wait to hear it running!

I then mounted the frame to the engine, i have lots of little things to do, the large pipe running across the top is a coolant pipe, i have some minor things to do.
i will also increase the inlet runner length on the throttle bodies, hopefully i have enough room under the bonnet, i should make some gains too haha maybe not? time will tell lol!
The diff isn't mounted on the frame just yet as i have to make a small modification of the subframe (clearance for the chain) hopefully i will have this done, this weekend.

And lastly here is a picture of the engine from the other side.

I will add some more updates as i progress!

On preview i noticed the pictures don't line up to my paragraphs but hopefully it all makes sense!

Cheers

A cf or fibreglass bodied mini running this kind of motor would be a dream.
Still - your rig would be a close second ! Best of luck with the build , I hope it is all legal all the way.

Just some progress,
I have had all the parts I needed modified,
fuel tank, drive shafts, engine steady and top water pipe.
Ignore the untidy engine bay, I have lots of welding, cutting (tidying up)
cleaning and painting to do! here are some pics!
