Hi people it has been a long time. I'm just now starting to get info together to start a new project but am getting a lot of conflicting info about 4efte conversions in nsw is it still able to be engineered?

ring an engineer, the the answer from those that will have to sign it off

don't ask here on a forum, you'll only get conflicting or misleading info

surely someone from another state who isn't a qualified engineer nor experienced in engine conversion legalities has a clear and valid reason to provide authoritative information...

the issue lies in that some engineers will sign off stuff that others won't.
its all in the interpretation of the "rules"

for instance I had an engineer (for a non mini project) that would not sign off on having no inner guards, even though the car pre-dated the valiant ADR. where as I've since found another engineer that has no issue whether the car has them or not, just as long as there are no sharp edges.
all in the same state (VIC) and theoretically applying the same rules to modifications.

for this reason I have found it more beneficial to just ring around with exactly what you want, until you find an engineer that either has done one before or is willing to sing it off.

You're not wrong there, some you talk to are super helpful when it comes to suggesting ways round things, others just put anything more than a 5 minute job in the too hard basket, then there's the odd few who don't care what you do and price the OK'ing accordingly.

makes sense I will do that his week. Was probably more looking at had any recently been engineered and Regis than I know it can be done just got to find out how I'll call the engineer that did it for me last time suppose he would have he best idea.

Let us know how you go and who you talk to about it. I'm looking into something similar and will be needing an Engineer around Campbelltown

Get people on this Forum who have done similar conversions in your State or Territory to contact you by PM with their local Gingerbeer experiences/recommendations (oops! I just did it for you  )

I've been lurking for a while and I don't know crap about minis but I have something useful to say

I have owned a couple of minis over the years and have been researching an engine conversion here in NSW for a few months. I've been in contact with Peter Gillard (peter@adrcompliance.com.au), an engineer signatory for the RMS, and he sent me this link --> clicky

One of the more important things from his perspective is there shall be no cutting of the engine sub-frame, unless it's a notch for fitment of a radiator or something similar which can be strengthened by welding on a plate. Let's say the mini's original weight is 650kg on the rego papers, then according to page 11;

Naturally aspirated: Original mass (kg) x 3.0 = max. capacity in cc’s
Forced induction: Original mass (kg) x 2.5 = max. capacity in cc’s

That's my 2 cents.....now to find a mini with a good body that's suitable for my project.
