Hi Guys

I'm in the process of doing a Honda B16 Vtec conversion using the Allspeed Subframe.
I can see there is a mount/bracket for the alternator which is up the front.
However, I see some people who have fabricated their own mounts on the AllSpeed subframe and mounted the alternator on the top behind the engine.
Just wondering which location people who are using the Allspeed subframe are mounting the alternator?

Thanks
Dan

i have the minitec bracket for putting the alternator behind the engine, however i have also seen people mount it transverse above the LHS wheel (see dutchys mini)

also allspeed sell aftermarket mounts which i beleive tuck it in towards the block more out the front..

my understanding is that if you mount it up the front you require a minitec subframe (mounts the engine closer to the firewall) or you need to extend the front of your mini by an inch or two
this said i havnt mounted mine yet.. so not sure how its all going to fit for me :)

Front mounting an alternator in a round nose mini is possible, but tight. The subframe doesn't matter as much as the car you put it into. In most cases people swap out to a smaller than stock unit and have to modify the grille area. If you have a clubman or an extended front this is not an issue.

If you are wanting to retain the original Honda alternator, or not modify the bodywork, then your options are either:
a: mount it backwards under the guard, or
b: above the engine at the back.

I chose to go with option B on mine - it keeps the alternator in a place accessible and retains the original unit running in the correct direction. The bracket to support it can be a little lighter in this configuration too, so less chance of it failing from reverse mounting it.
