Hi all
assume its here somewhere, but have not found a list or recommendation

can someone advise a friendly engineer for Melbourne for a conversion

1. dont have a car yet ( open to suggestions if anyone selling)
2. not set on drive train yet, but its going to be round nose and dont want to extend the front or make it a flip up.

open to suggestions and feedback / comments

Gav

Afaik extended fronts and flip fronts are both problematic for engineering, so it's good thou aren't going that way.
Engine and drivetrain will depend on what your goals for the car are, track, daily, drags, high power, cost, how much you can or are prepared to do yourself, if you are prepared to do something no one has done before or if you want three benefits of others experience.
Some of the donor motors are old motors now, (g13, 4efte, b16, cg13de) so a newer motor would be nice but your beating the path yourself so it's a lot more work and problem solving.

This guy (http://www.dutchysmini.com/vtec-project.html) is on here (viewtopic.php?f=23&t=89636). Didn't extend the front and didn't remove bodywork. A really nice job.

Hi, thanks chaps

yes, understand the issues with modifying and an extended front / flip is just too much to tick off and comply .

its a daily driver set up I want , not track etc. My wife will drive as well so needs to be easy to use

I have had a look at Dutchy's site .... sent him a message

I'm biased i guess... but particularly for you're planned use I'd also consider the cg13de it's an engine which fits nicely in the bay and thou don't need to cut the inner wings, don't be put off by the low factory power figures it improves significantly with a new inlet and exhaust which you need to do anyway. The only 4 cylinder car engine I know of that fits with out cutting the inner wings.
And it's still a 1275 (not kidding! Same bore and stroke as the A series).
Here's my thread if you're interested.

Lots of the good engineers in Victoria with mini experience have either shut shop or retired in recent years sadly.
I did some ringing around a couple of months back to try and find somebody to take on a new build but didn't get too far.
The ones that were up for the work weren't overly experienced with old cars, and the ones that do know their old cars don't need the work!

Engine wise - If I was building a mini for daily use I'd be going with either a Honda D16y engine or for something a little newer and smaller maybe a Suzuki M13a.
The old dinosaur engines of the early 90s were great engines and the repeat use of them in minis shows how good they are, but finding parts for them now can make a seemingly cheap engine expensive if it needs work when something else may be more cost effective or suitable for more cost outlay up front.

The Suzi appears to have equal length driveshafts...great for Mini's...
