Here's a cheap way to make an engine lifting bracket to lift your engine out (by engine hoist or chain block).

Take a length of 40mm angle iron and cut it to 180mm, drill two holes at 153mm centers as per the photo. Take it to the car (or spare engine) and mark the area you will need to grind out in order to clear the center stud nut. The hole sizes and clearing should be made to comfortably clear your style of nut (ie flanged nuts need more area).

Get a D shackle and hacksaw off the rounded lugs, so that you're left with a loop to weld onto the front face of the angle. This should be offset towards the flywheel end (as mounted) with the center being approx 60mm from one end. This accounts for the additional weight on the clutch end of the motor and helps keep it level. Give it a coat of paint, and when it's dry you're in business.
