ok so i thought i would make a how to on making a key fit a clubman igniton barrel
step 1 remove ignition barrel from column now these have 4 bolts so what i did was use a punch and hit them around till they came out then cut a slot in them for easy removal and install when i need to

step 2
you will find this little pin this has to come out. mine had already been hacked at so made it very easy but you could drill this out it is very soft metal

step 3 once the pin is out turn it upside down and this should and i mean should fall out

step 4 remove this plate by levering it off with a flat screwdriver and pull out shaft

step 5 you will c a little gold color washer like a cir clip needs to be pushed in i used a flat nose screwdriver and pushed it in and the key barrel fell out very tricky to get it out

step 6 now you should have this

step 7 grab the key you want to make fit and slide it into the barrel. You will notice that there are waffers

that will be sticking up and down, now as far as i can tell there are 3 sizes small medium and large i didnt get photos of these sorry but basically change them around till they are all flush and should look like this

now you will need more waffers so you will have to pull a few apart but another way i have been told to do it i think is very dodgy is to file the end of them so they dont poke out, what you do is up to you.
step 8 remove key and place it all back together and there you have it :)

Great guide, with the roll pin holding the barrel in place you can make a small drill hole next to it and just lever it out with a sharp pointed center punch this will allow you to keep the pin in top shape and the hole to refit it. You are right about not filing the wafers, Its best to just leave the ones that don't fit out if you dont have access to a BMC wafer kit.

Or you can see if it has numbers on the barrel and get a key cut off your local locksmiths key code computer it saves wrecking the pins by filing them

I have two with original keys with the number on the key

Thanks for the how to. Sometimes I like to repair things myself rather than replace whole assemblies.
But you probably wouldn't want to be paying $80 an hour for the local mechanic to pull it apart.

Local locksmiths are not likely to have a key code. They dont always have a code on the side either

Its a very similar method for door and boot locks matching to non-steering lock ignitions.

My GT I have one key that fits doors boot and will fit the original ignition when I put it back in.

So worth doing.

Dont file them as that way many keys will fit them, pull a couple a apart and move the wafers around until it is right.

There was/is a key place in Canberra that has blanks of all the different mini keys (fs, Nh, etc) and if you send them the number they can cut them for you. They also cut a new key and supplied the key number using a photo I had of a key. Both worked perfectly. I'll see if I can dig up the company.

Well were I live the locksmith couldn't even get it apart. So I fixed it my self instead of spending money but each to there own if you have several clubmans like some people do wouldn't it be. Nice for one ignition key to fit all of them think bout it

The place in Canberra that can cut keys to the code (if you know or can find it) or from a picture are keys4classics.com.
The clubman ignition codes start at NH2700 if I recall.
Worth noting that the NH series clubman ignition keys are not listed under "Mini 1959-1994"
but under "MGB, Midget 1970-1977".

I work as a locksmith in Frankston, Vic we can cut all BMC keys to code. I have rekeyed and cut new keys to code for my 76 van. We even cut keys and rekeyed a ignition to a 1947 oldmobile the other day was fascinating.
