Started another little toy recently. Far from finished but I'll update as I go.

For those of you that havent seen my real car:
http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=27017&start=52

Well I'm now building a little 1/10 version, just cause I have all the spare bits around to do it.

Here's a free tip for those new to the game: the reason you don't use automotive paint on polycaronate cars is because it'll react with the plastic. That's what I found out here.
What happens is there is some solvent in the automotive spray paint that mixes with the glue on any masked up areas and it fogs and roughs the plastic up. I painted the blue first and noticed the problem on the windows and roof.
I was able to fix it enough with some 2000 wet and dry sand paper in the shell before applying the next coat of paint, and finally some window tint to disguise the foggy windows.

Roof and stripes sanded ready for paint

I even managed to find some mini size wheels the same as mine on ebay. The tyres were too big so I have to finish cutting them off but it's a start.

Body trimmed and ready for the shiny bits to go on.

The next main challenge for this little car will be taking photos of the badges, handles, etc and getting these details transferred to the toy, them I'm going to try and find / make the necessary 3d details like the filler cap and wiper arms.

What brand is the chassis? I have a 1/10 elecrtic and a 1/8 nitro mini both Tamiya.

As for the details, see if you can get hold of the sticker sheet for the Tamiya nitro model, it's pretty good for the details you want.

Up the motor to a .15 then fit a 2 speed and a tuned pipe, it will rip the centres out of the wheels going into 2nd 8)

I have one of nearly any kind. I have some old M-01s, an M-03, an HPI mini chassis and a colt nitro mini chassis fitted with a traxxas .15 engine.

These days though if you want speed, brushless is the way to go. 8)

I reckon my electric is a M-01, cos i've fitted suspension parts for an 03 for strength.
I am keen to do a brushless conversion on it and a 11.1v lipo, it will be stupid fast.

It's amazing om my planes a big 600 size brush motor is outdone by a brushless 28 x 32mm which is also 1/3 the weight.

I don't think the plastic gears in a stock tamiya car will take the power of a brushless motor. I've stripped gears in some of those cars before with a 540 sport motor.

How many shocks has your car got?
2 is for M-01,
4 is for M-03.

Just got it off ebay.
Its a tamiya monte-carlo version. This is the most realistic mini shell as all the other brands don't have the chrome bumpers and grille and stuff, and the tamiya racing version of the shell has out of proportion arches and stuff.
:D

On the Tamiya train, I used to have (actually still do in the shed - anyone want to buy it?!) a TL-01.
With a 7 (or was it 9?) turn engine.. jesus the thing used to fly!

Unfortunately I don't think its the right size for a Mini body.
I had a S7 RX7 body, and a 996 GT3.

Good fun.
Then I grew up.
And found women, and booze.

You can get a 1/8th scale mini body to fit that car.
:D

I gave up on the toys when i hit 18 too, but got back into it all in the last few months without a real mini to work on.
