I found one of these on the shelf in my old bedroom at Mum and Dad's house. Its been there for a while because I moved out in 1991.

Its in as-new condition, has a little bit of discolouring to the bare alloy underneath but is otherwise perfect. The box is pretty good, but one of the flaps on the end has a small tear.

Is it worth anything, or can I let my kids play with it?

Tim

In the last few weeks, one of this exact model sold for $22- and the other $36. Both overseas so postage on top of that. They average around $30- to $50- depending on the rarity. Being here in Australia it may go higher. There are dozens of different colours and themes of this make in the mini but not a lot of them around, I only have 4 in my collection of over 500 minis. They are well sought after so it would probably sell quickly. Unless you are a collector (and I don't advise starting) I would probably sell it rather than give it to the kids because you could buy half a dozen matchbox minis for them to play with for the same price. It would also help preserve it for future collectors because it looks in perfect condition. If you do list it, put an opening bid on it so you don't end up giving it away. If it has senstimental value then hang on to it but either way it wouldn't be one for the kids to ruin. I hope this helps. Cheers.

I agree with what Flute said but would add that if you want to sell, I would be interested :D

Cheers guys, I'll keep it safe from little hands then.

I'd love to start a collection, but I need to save all my pennies for the 1:1 models. I vaguely remember buying this cheap one because even when I was single and childless the really nice ones were too expensive to justify.

cheers
Tim

I think everyone will agree that you dont start a "collection" you start an "addiction"

I wasn't going to mention that Steve!

Good idea doing your 1:1 first, my 1:1 is in the garage needing an engine rebuild and I have a few thousand $$$ of models sitting in boxes!

I can't afford any more addictions.

Buuut, I could fit a lot more in the shed if they were all 1:50 scale

Better not.

yeah, I still have the boxes (or most of them anyway). A couple of the cars have small paint chips from being accidentally dropped, but I never played with them

turns out there are 17, I took this picture a long time ago. The black and green ones at the front with the southern cross on the roof were specials from "sheriffs mini cars", the company I bought them from. They used to do the motor show at the old melbourne exhibition building.

Every now and then I'd get dad to write me a cheque and I'd give him the cash and post it off, and also ask for a list of any new colours they had

Image

and I know what MIB means - I even know what MOMC means! sheesh!
