They still sell kits with the mechanical speed controller, must be for the arsonists who like R/C cars as well.

Pics coming soon.

As for the esc not having a low voltage cut off, you are correct. But I bought a low voltage alarm that plugs into the balance wire and sounds at 3V per Cell. However, my new esc combo has low voltage cutoff.

Peter, what chassis is that? m06? It looks like fun.

Man i've been away a while! nice to read a few updates, look forward to these pics of yours. I don't think that's an M06. I'm not sure but that doesn't even look like a tamiya. Certainly a few upgrades on that though! Love the carbon chassis...

It's a Tamiya TA05 M-four.

That was the base version for mine. I just didn't use half the decals and painted it in my own scheme.

They actually only just came put this year. Personally, i don't think so. That said, many love the differences. If you can, try one out and see how you like the feel of it compared to the old one.

ha - no, don't have one to compare with, I only have an M01 that's been sitting in the cupboard for 15 years

That said, if you cant try one out or you do prefer the V2, get it. The advantages/improvements are great. I'm only skeptical because it isn't proven yet. I know there is a small fault, i believe its something to do with the steering linkage not coming with a wide enough washer or something. I don't remember. Easy fix though and like i said, there are advantages to the new version. If you can get it for around the same price, absolutely get it.

Couldn't see (although I'm half blind using tablet thingo), does it use the 7.2v stick battery or the silly 6v Tamiya battery?

The V2? Usual 6 cell 7.2s.

If I was to upgrade/update my M01, what ESC/motor/lipo battery combo would be the smartest & most economical choice?

I'd only want to run it around the backyard & on the footpath....

It actually doesn't matter. That is one of the things they have barely changed from the M01 to the M05. The layout is very similar and the space is still the same. The mounts for servos are pretty much universal and so is the motor mounts. The same with the battery housing too. The only thing that has changed placement is the ESC is on the inside rather than the side. It doesn't matter what you choose, providing it is compatible with the other parts you buy, it'll be compatible with the M01
