Are you enjoying the racing aspect of this hobby Simon? I really enjoy the building and modding but the racing is what motivates me to keep doing it, not that I care about winning. |

I always found the people of the hobby appealing. I have a few things to get done before I go and spend some on my mini, then I'll look at racing but for now, im not getting into it just yet. I have a feeling I'd absolutely love it. |

I know I'm never going to be more than 'good' at it, but when I string together a few clean laps with the RC mini, or do a really clean top turn in the straight slalom at Hay, I'm happy with myself |

The thing I love about race days is the timing system. Being able to compare lap times really give you a good indication of your driving improvements or car improvements. Sometimes a car might 'feel' better but the lap times don't support this or the oposite. |

I tested out the diff with the lighter oil. It made a small improvement to steering but I think I'm going to go lighter. I might try 50000wt. |

I had a shocking day of racing today. Started off ok. Then the where the ball stud bolts into on the suspension arm snapped off, luckily I had a spare. Next the ball stud that holds my adjustable rear upper arms worked loose and let go mid race, fixed it quickly. Then one off my shocks started leaking a lot. Finally I cracked the chassis just below the gearbox and there was a lot of flex. I stuck some fiberglass tape on it and threw it on the track for the final. All was going well and I was in second place in the last lap, when my Dad, who was an entire lap behind, took me out on the 4th last turn and put me back into third. I also wrote my touring car off in practice, by bending the motor shaft/rotor and the motor mount. NOT HAPPY!!!!! |

Ahh the joys of racing they were the days and lots of $$$$ spent Race for a few hours one night a week then spend the rest of the week ordering parts you didn't already have and repairing for the following weeks race night |

The great thing about the m05 is that it's cheap to repair. The motors/ESC are bullet proof and the rest is cheap plastic. A new chassis will only cost me $15. |

Unless you go for a fancy one like a pro or something...I went and bought some shocks and some slicks for mine, I'll likely have to convert it back to the standard motor if I want to actually compete. Although my RC shop does have a very pretty M05 pro chassis for a very good price. I may just keep this one for mucking about and make a completely track focused one with a new shell. After all I would need to change a couple of other things on my current mini in order to make it competitive, I may just start with a good chassis... |

I generally 'demote' an old race chassis to 'beater' status every time I build up a new car (which used to be annually, now, about every 3 years!) and then I don't feel bad when I run it in the rain, jump it over discs, play chicken with another Mini, try and do a 'loop-the-loop' in a drain pipe, run a full race in reverse, race against CORR trucks, run it in the dirt.......or whatever other idea that sounded like fun at the time! Hahahaha! It's great because they are cheap! |
