The great thing about the m05 is that it's cheap to repair. The motors/ESC are bullet proof and the rest is cheap plastic. A new chassis will only cost me $15.

I had a esc catch fire once I hooked up a motor that was to big for it

It looked like a mobile fireball when the body caught fire it got the kids in the street all excited

Since then I don't believe hobby shop staff when they say this will handle any motor you put on it

I saw an entire chassis last week on Thingverse I think it was, ready to 3D print.

You could build your chassis mods right into the chassis.

Haha! I printed one in Orange with that link! No idea where it is at the moment though!

The control hobbywing motor/esc combo that is used for 'mini' in Australia is bullet proof.

Yeah I'm in agreement with Ryan, bulletproof...now I'm pretty sure I'm going to spend a lot of money in the RC shop on Monday, so I'm thinking waterproof my electrics, bolt a metal plate on the underside, some short course shocks and rally tires, then take my old mini bashing!

I'm thinkning about making a bashing mini as well. All I need to add are the M-05Ra uprights (F parts) and some rally block tyres. Has anyone made a rally m-05 before? how'd it go?

lol, I'm very keen to do the same... could either get a new kit in a monte-carlo, or get the rally swift and put a mini shell on it... along with the F parts, I think the rally swift has some splash guards. I drove my m01 on the off-road track in Wodonga once, and it was cute, but got beached on the top of the jumps a few times cos I was too scared to go up them fast enough to get over the top!

I threw a set of tc shocks and some radials on my basher and ran it around on the dirt, gravel and short grass. It was lots of fun, but it didn't have enough grip. It currently gets stuck in the longer grass and soft dirt. I think if I tightened the diff, threw some better tyres and a set of Ra hubs on it, it would be much better. What tyres should I use? Does anyone have any advice for setups?

If you need a little more ground clearance, you could also run TC sized rims too - they'll fit under 'most' bodies without too much hassle (but not the original Mini shell!)

This is where I cracked my chassis last week. It certainly changed the way the car handled. I couldn't take a right hand corner at speed without the car flipping. It runs across the bottom, up around the gear case and up to the little ear that the top arm mounts to.
