I've joined the cracked chassis club... I think this happened while practising before racing last night. I raced anyway, heats were terrible as usual. I've had an ongoing problem with steering arms popping off in a crash, I changed the arms to the standard tamiya units, which also meant taking out a LOT of toe, and I started being a lot more consistent, I almost came 2nd in a race!

it looks like all the silastic I put in the gaps to try to seal it up helped keep it in one piece

#1 mini driver gave me a go of his car, it drives much the same, but his is a lot more direct which he reckons might be my cheapie controller... so maybe I'll see about a new one

Gotta love Mini racing! :P

Definitely a good servo makes a big difference - and then also some expo dialed in to slow down the initial sensitivity, but without the loss of any overall steering throw. I just keep playing with my rates until it reaches the happy place.

yeah, my cheapie controller doesn't have any expo, only a dial that reduces the amount of steering...

is a flysky GT3-C the most cost effective? they're ~$75 on ebay, or a GT3-B is $45 at rcmart

The GT3-c is a decent controller with lots of great functionality, but it certainly doesn't help make the car more direct. I really like my GT3c but it certainly has a cheap feel about it and quite loose steering. I upgraded to a spectrum dx4s. Another good transmitter is a Futuba 4pls.

Hobby warehouse is where I bought my Gt3c. $68 plus shipping.
Avoid the orange ones as they had issues.

yeah, not interested in spending anywhere near that sort of money... half that is still too much for me

Have you considered second hand transmitters?

They pop up all the time on RCTECH and you can save $100s

Hobby King are now stocking m-chassis sized bodies, one of which is a classic Mini Cooper. It's the short wheelbase but a different shape to the Tamiya version. They have stock in Australia and they are cheap.

righto I'm going to strip and rebuild my m05 over the next few days, just finished rebuilding 2 10th scale nitro tourers for next years racing. I'm going to race the mini socially on a carpet track at gladesville. I took the car there before and it had severe track roll issues , carpet is super high grip with traction compound on the tyres. Does anyone have a sorted setup sheet for tarmac I could use for a base setup? Or post there car details?

My setup on carpet was almost exactly the same as my Tarmac. I just used M-Grips, S-Grips and kit tires. Try M's all round to start with-then balance with S's as needed.

Shocks, springs etc I never adjusted!
