I am considering buying a new Mini Cooper S and have had a quick look around your forum, noticed talk of a new model with Pug engine.
Will this new engine also replace the current Supercharged engine?
I really like the power delivery of forced induction motors, and the useable torque they develop in the mid range so I hope the supercharged version will not be discontinued.
Can anyone confirm future model details? and what line-up to expect.
Are there any common problems with the new Mini I should be aware of?
Any other info you think relevant is appreciated.
Looking to place order in next few months but doing research now.

Cheers

If you're buying brand new, there shouldn't be any problems, as any bugs would have been worked out by now. Plus you the full warranty.
I don't think the pugeot engine comes out till 2007 (?).

Hey BigLebowski,

www.mini2.com contains a wealth of information about the new MINI. (Or BINI as they are referred to here).

The Cooper S is supercharged. As far as I know, it will always be supercharged - although there is talk of a turbo (ugh) version.

Check out the faults and fixes forum over on mini2 - they have had plenty of problems.

That said, I love mine to death. You would be hard pressed to find another modern car with so much personality. Happy shopping.

I certainly hope not Makka. The supercharger is an integral part of the personality of the car (love that whine it makes).

My next car is gonna be a BINI - but only if it is supercharged. Most BINI owners love the supercharger, would have to be something pretty special to get them to accept a turbo instead.

see ours is a july 02 - "ohhhh the July 02" - infamously bad build quality.

But I reckon when they ditch the supercharger a few people (me included) would miss that lovely whine. (from the supercharger - not the one from the air con  ) and I also reckon in 30 years time the earlier the build the more they'll be worth. but its just a hunch.

the cooper s looks mighty fine with the air intake at the front but its only JUST alittle faster than the standard mini...

and like all BMWs, the extras are endless....which means more $$$....

every1 whos lookign to buy will more than often spent 3K more to upgrade to the chilli pack - likemyself...

eitherway let me first welcome u to the club!

wat colour combi are u gettin?....

Ryan23, I've narrowed the colour choice down to either Dark Silver/ White Roof or Red/ White Roof. At the moment leaning towards Red though as I think the colour really suits the Mini.
I'm also a bit dissapointed to hear the supercharger will be replaced with a turbocharger, I love the whirring noise the supercharger makes, and it produces boost from idle unlike a turbocharger that requires revs before it starts to make boost.
Still, a twin scroll turbo is suposed to be brilliant and turbo lag should be minimal. Fuel economy should improve with a turbo set up.

I test drove a Cooper S and absolutely loved it, even though it was a fair bit slower than my current car it was a lot more fun as an overall package, don't think I'd ever get sick of driving one.

mines dark silver (gun metal) so choose red plsssssssssssss!!!! lol

its always betta to go white roof n red body....but if u do decide to go with silver may i suggest goin with the silver roof with NO stripes....looks mad!!

but if u really want the contrast of the chrome - go black!!!!!....u will be the BLINKIEST car in the city!

what abt extras??!!! what have u deiceded? chrome rings? chrome switches?.......

btw are u getting a BULLDOG too  .......ive got a brussels griffon!....looks equally impressive with my mini *woof woof*!!!
