Hey guys, my sister in London has a 2006 MINI Cooper S and it has started to overheat. Are there any common causes? Head gasket, water pump, thermostat?v

Any tips so I can help her not get ripped off. She is a sitting duck for an untrustworthy service guy.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

If it is a R53, yes they can suffer thermostat issues, more common in the earlier cars, signs of leaking coolant are easy to spot. The plastic header tank is also prone to splitting, another source of coolant loss.

The low speed fan resistor that sits behind the radiator can fail, ie low speed fan wont kick in, high speed fan is still usually operational (at about 105 deg from memory). If it is the low speed fan resistor there is an easy fix.
