Post subject: | Buying a MINI |
Hey, currently own a 67 Mini Deluxe as a daily driver and want to give it a bit of a rest! Still keeping it but looking for a MINI to enjoy daily as a second (third) car. Currently looking at a few 2002-2006 Cooper S models with under 100,000km around $15000. Are there any potential issues that i should be looking for, questions i should be asking etc... Any advice warmly received! EDIT: Ok, been researching some vehicles as you can see below. Question, why can I not find a VIN beginning with WMWRE32050TC##### I can only find WMWRE32010TC##### WMWRE32030TC##### WMWRE32080TC##### What Model/Year/Badge/Variation is this? |

Hmm.......clutches usually get done between 80-120,000 kms depending on how hard the car is driven. It's about a $2000 job to change it so keep that in mind. Make sure theres no excessive noise from the supercharger, and that all the electrics work.........ones that can give trouble are door locks, sunroof and gauges. |

If the tyres are worn it can sound like a wheel bearing is on it's way out! Or it could just be a wheel bearing is actually on its way out!!! |

Check the service history and give preference to one serviced by BMW |

I'd give preference to one serviced by a european car specialist like bmautowerks over BMW. They have no idea what they're doing from my experience. |

Thanks for the advice so far - just to put things in context, this is the one at the top of my list! http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/detai ... D-16311443 Also, any ideas on who to use to transport a MINI from Adelaide to Canberra and the cost? |

In addition to the comments above, a few things to keep an eye out for: Plastic header tanks leak at the seam Power steering pumps (they are noisy by nature) but a common failure Thermostat leaks Check the low speed fan (should come on with the A/C on) note the power steering fan should also come on strut top mushrooming The car you are looking at obviously has a non standard exhaust (ie only the 1 outlet) also looks to have some sort of earthing kit?? possible signs of previous modifications where parts may have been returned back to stock (but not all) Check to see if it has reduction supercharger pulley, you wouldn't want it to be any more that 17% unless it has been tuned etc |

OK, new one in the mix after the last one seemed modified and a little too hard to access: http://www.carsales.com.au/private/deta ... AD-2936192 Is it just me or (and according to REDBOOK) are many of these MINI Cooper s's asking way too much? The above one appears to be one of the few in the acceptable price range for its k's |

personal opinion only . why do people have a fascination with black cars in this country of ours ?? hard to see in the dark aircon works overtime in the heat |

agree - would prefer blue myself - or white with black roof - but hard to match up awesome condition of car, low k's, well-looked after and colour of choice unfortunately! AND I live in Canberra so aircon working overtime is only an issue for a few months of the year - not like in Brissy where it is coming from |
