Like most people I've spoken to, I think that most of the new models are very unnecessary & go against what 'MINI' really is... Mini! The 5-door is less offensive than some other models, but it does look a little more awkward & is a little bit less small, making it a little bit less 'mini'...
Nowhere near as bad as the hideous Countryman, though - that thing is frumpy-looking & ugly, high-riding, fairly large, heavy & not exactly peppy... Basically the opposite of everything that makes a MINI a MINI...
