The daughters Cooper has the air bag light on so I thought I would go the expense of purchasing a OBD2/ Eobd diagnostic tool. First one I purchased didn't work at all on any of my cars and was a Chinese knockoff. The second one I tried at Auto One yesterday which I was told works on most OBD2 cars. As it happens it doesn't work on BMW or Mini due to lock out protocols set by BMW. The tool I want needs to be compatible with other makes so I can utilise the most for my dollar. So my question is:- Whats everyone using? |

I have an autel obd2 code reader. I used it last week on a house mates 04 318 BMW and it worked fine. It is a European tool as I brought it with me when I was coming. I have used it on other European models too. I'm around all weekend if you want to meet i can try read the faults for you. What year is the mini? Ian -0431861324 |

I may take you up on that. Its a R50 2002 model. Probably something silly. But it would be great to see if there is something else wrong. Also curious to see if your tool works on the car. |

I use an Ultra Gauge & leave it connected all the time http://www.ultra-gauge.com It's cleared all the codes I have had to date. '05 R53 |

brett wrote: how did you get on? To date I still haven't bought one. I discovered the issue with the daughters R50 was due to a iPod adapter was faulty causing the problem of the BCM. The air bag light is still on so I will get around to it soon. I recently bought a MGB which has been taking up my time and focus. |

Update!! I purchased the iCarsoft i910. Its specified to get round the BMW protocols. Let you know if it goes well when it arrives |

I bring good news! The iCarsoft 910 is specific to BMW and Mini. I plugged it in and the unit worked first go. The air bag light was lit due to a fault flagged for the drivers seat belt pre tensioner. I reset the error and went for a drive and so far its all good. The tool menu has the full list of models and can show diagnostics for each module including sun roof, navigation, reverse sensors, engine, body and more. The only negative its only good for BMW/Mini but this can be good as it is set up for the specifics of the models and may provide more info as compared to a basic tool. Cheers Rob |
