Hi All,
Am looking to purchase a second hand MY 2005 / 2006 R53 MCS.
Price range $10-$15k.
Will probably do plug and pulley upgrade and cat back exhaust.
Any concerns I need to consider with this model as a second hand vehicle?
Cheers
Z

I have had an 05 for the past 4-5 years & it has been super reliable.
Keep an eye for leaking plastic header tanks, noisy power steering pumps (they are generally noisy), check the power steering pump fan works by turning on the AC, this will trigger the fan.
The low speed fan relay can often go, check by turning on the AC & the low speed fan should come on.
Thermostat leaks.
Harmonic balancer failure can be common at this age.
Less common is a noisy supercharger, more specifically the gears that drive the water pump. At either end of the supercharger there are two small oil reservoirs, the seal can fail at the clutch end of the supercharger draining the reservoir & then the two drive gears for the water pump destroy themselves, you won’t see an oil leak as the oil gets sucked into the supercharger)

Despite the list above and contrary to what others might say, they are a great car.
(..... I should declare my 05 MCS is for sale, however in NSW)

I've seen one up there like that and there was a younger woman driving it. Not sure if that's yours but I've Always admired it.

be careful
have been informed by a reliable source most parts for any bmw mini after 10 years old are becoming very scarce ,if not non existent.
virtually not supported at all.
this may be true or not. but would be worth investigating.

I'm sure she loves the attention!

absolutely be in touch. you wont find a better one than this.

interesting comment regarding getting parts. I have a 03 cooper s which I'm building as a hillclimbr/race car. and have had no issues getting anything. perhaps that's a bmw specific thing, ie bmw don't keep the parts?(I know after a point in time, bmw credit the dealers for parts and essentially write them off. perhaps that's the 10 year thing?)

I have gotten stuff out of America etc easy as. and minisport in Adelaide has a huge range of parts.

look forward to hearing from you!
